2008 Lackwaxen River Monster Trout Derby

This year’s opening day of trout season on the Lackawaxen River, will be a monstrous success! Each year the anglers on the Lackawaxen have had great success, but this year, due to the initiative of the Business Owners of Lackawaxen Township in Pike County, Pa there will be an extra bonus of 100 monster trout stocked in the Lackawaxen River.
These will be in addition to thousands of trout stocked by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania each year.
The Business Owners of Lackawaxen Township organization reports that it has completed its stocking of the Lackawaxen River for BOLT's Second Annual Monster Trout Derby. 100 trout, supplied by the Blooming Grover Hatchery, are healthy, feisty monster trout. The derby begins on April 12, the opening day in Pennsylvania, and runs through the trout season.
There is no entry fee for the public and no pre-registration. All that an angler needs to do is catch any one of the 100 monster trout stocked in the Lackawaxen River between Hawley and the Village of Lackawaxen.
These trout are tagged with a number that corresponds with the list of sponsors. Simply take the fish to Angler’s Roost sporting goods store on Scenic Drive in Lackawaxen or to Wallenpaupack Sport Shop at Routes 6 & 590 in Hawley. At the sports shops the fish will be weighed-in and certified.
The trout are approximately 21 to 28 inches in length and weigh between 5 and 10 pounds. For details e-mail Angler’s Roost at mountainman@ltis.net or call 570-685-2010.
