The Goals of the African American Community Advisory Council are to:
-Advise the Seattle Police Department about
the crime prevention, public safety, and
law enforcement concerns of the African
American community through open and
respectful dialogue.
-Promote and encourage cul tural
competency training for officers while
expanding the community’s understanding
of the practices and policies of the police
department.
-Support and encourage African American
youth and the Seattle Police Department
to develop a healthy and successful
relationship.
-Promote and encourage community
participation in the Advisory Council, events
and workshops that promote public safety.
-Foster goodwill and trust between the
African American community and the
Seattle Police Department.
-Encourage police recruitment in the African
American community.

The Goals of the East African Advisory Council are to:
-Increase East African community
members’ participation in the
Advisory Council and maintain an
active Council that promotes building
ongoing reciprocal communication
between the East African communities
and the Seattle Police Department.

manage concerns regarding changes
the Seattle Department may be
seeking to implement.
-Promote and encourage cultural
competency training for officers
while expanding the communities
understanding of the practices and
policies of the Police Department.
-Engage, strengthen, and mentor
One Voice youth and strengthen
communication efforts between East
African parents and the Seattle Police
Department.
-Develop strategies for making police
services responsive to the needs
of the members of the East African
communities.
-Encourage police recruitment in the
East African community.
-Outreach to new arriving immigrants
and refugees from East Africa.
