Practical Art presents: "Shapes" by Julio Cesar Rodarte

Why must paint be applied only to square or rectangular canvases? Inspired by the works of Frank Stella and Elizabeth Murray, emerging artist Julio Cesar Rodarte starts his creative process by first constructing a canvas in an unusual shape. Once he has his sculptural form, he then paints on the shapes with colorful repetitive patterns, geometric shapes, forms, silhouettes, numbers, going wherever the inspiration of the form takes him. Join us for a reception Friday, March 5, 2010. 7pm.

Sarah Kriehn: An Exhibition of Collagraphs

Cathedral Center for the Arts presents— Sarah Kriehn: An Exhibition of Collagraphs

Please join us at the Olney Room Gallery in Trinity Cathedral for a month-long solo exhibit of the work of Sarah Kriehn which will be included in First Friday and Sunday of the Art Detour 22 (gallery closed Saturday, March 6) during the first weekend in March.

Sarah is a printmaker whose approach to art lies between the fields of printmaking and painting. This exhibit will display her original collagraphs, which chronicle encounters and experiences in life. From subtle tonalities to vibrant hues, these works are evocative of the closely attended response to internal and external states. The exhibit will also focus on the differences and similarities in groups of collagraphs printed from the same plate. Sarah is an Arizona native and North Central Phoenix resident. Her work has been exhibited at the Shemer Art Center & Museum, Herberger Gallery, University of Arizona Medical School, Tempe Center for the Arts and the Phoenix Art Museum.

Sarah Kriehn was born and raised in Winslow, Arizona and has a degree from Arizona State University. For twenty years she taught elementary art in the Phoenix schools.

Join us for a reception Friday, March 5, 2010. 7pm.

Join us for a reception Friday, March 5, 2010. 7pm.

Join us for a reception Friday, March 5, 2010. 7pm.

Join us for a reception Friday, March 5, 2010. 7pm.
