In 1949, the Gratitude Train was sent by French citizens in response to the Friendship Train that America sent to them filled with food, clothing and fuel in 1947. The French sent 49 boxcars, one for each state, filled with gifts that were to be disbursed to the people of that state. Arizona’s Governor gave the material to the Arizona State Library where they have remained and cared for over the last 60 years.

Fashions by Robert Black to Be Showcased on November 18

On Wednesday, November 18, at 5:30 p.m., an elegant evening of music, appetizers, specialty drinks, designer booths and a fashion show, featuring vintage couture clothing by Robert Black, will be hosted at Temple Solel, 6805 E. McDonald Road, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253. Tickets are available for $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The evening’s proceeds will benefit The Solel Preschool Scholarship Fund.

The fashion show will present vintage couture clothing by Robert Black who started his career as a model and talent agent in the 80’s and has recently opened a boutique in Old Town Scottsdale. Black’s name is synonymous with fashion and the most beautiful faces in the Phoenix area. “We have shopped the world to find unique places, retained private collections and have done private acquisitions so that we can present everything from great day wear to ball gowns,” commented Black.

Indulgent appetizers and signature drinks will be served by the acclaimed caterer, Occasions by David Bauer. Dozens of designer booths will also be on-hand to provide a unique, designer shopping experience at the event. Babysitting and dinner for children (2 years and up) will be available by reservation for a minimum $10 donation per child.

“We expect hundreds of guests to support this unforgettable night,” remarked Committee Chair Brandy Hotchner, “and the best part is it benefits children who might not otherwise be able to attend The Solel Preschool.”

On Thursday, November 19 from 9am to 5pm, the Scottsdale Hilton will be bustling with small business entrepreneurs eager to network and learn at the first annual BizFair '09 presented by Little Pink Book. The event will include 16 guest speakers, an expo with more than 50 exhibitors showcasing their products and services, lunch with guest speaker Dave Sherman and an after-lunch networking session. Debbie Allen, international business speaker, will conclude the event with her presenation titled, "It's All Possible - How to Elevate Your Potential and Maximize Your Opportunities". Ten percent of ticket sales will go toward Desert Mission Food Bank.
