During the conference the Department of General Services (DGS) will be presenting an e-Procurement Workshop.
This workshop will demonstrate how the new system allows vendors to upload bids in response to applicable online solicitations.

"Mujeres del 2009"

One of the RHI’s goals is to recognize and award women leaders that are making a difference in our communities.

This year the RHI has selected a group of 11 Mujeres to be recognized for their exemplary contributions to the community.

The theme “Under the Mayan Moonlight,” exemplifies the richness of the Latino culture and the magnificence of the location in which the event will be held Hotel Maya in the city of Long Beach.

"Mujer Excelencia en Legislacion"
Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal
This award is presented to a Mujer who has been elected into office or works for government agency and is supportive of issues concerning the Hispanic Community.

Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal was elected in November 2008 to represent the 54th District of over half of the City of Long Beach, the San Pedro area of Los Angeles, and all of the Palos Verdes peninsula.

"Mujer Excelencia en Diversidad"
Carmen Herrera

This award is presented to the Corporation that demonstrates that "Diversity is a way of life" and that Diversity is a continuous journey at their corporation by embracing and appreciating all sectors of our Communities.

Carmen is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, management and performance of comprehensive supplier diversity programs. She oversees the development of annual and multi-year program plans designed to meet or exceed goals as required by California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) General Order 156 and corporate policy. Carmen acts as the company's senior representative to regulating bodies and regional, state and national supplier diversity organizations.

Danetta Jackson

This award is given to a Mujer Chamber partner that has demonstrated outstanding efforts to certify and educate the Hispanic Business Community to do business with government agencies.

Danetta Jackson is the Manager of the California Department of General Services Communication and Outreach Branch for the Procurement Division. She also serves as the Department's Small Business and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE) Advocate. In these capacities, Danetta and her staff work to make certain that Small and DVBE businesses get access to their share of state awarded contracts. In addition, Danetta is in charge of forging strategic collaborations, which benefit Small businesses and DVBEs, with government agencies at the local, statewide and federal levels.

This award is presented to a Mujer that has set green initiatives as a focus in her business

This award is presented to a Mujer owned Southern California-based business that has demonstrated excellent community citizenship, involvement and growth.

"Mujer Excelencia en Educacion"
Elena Macias PH. D

This award is presented to a Mujer that has demonstrated commitment to the Hispanic community through the support, advancement, and education of Hispanic youth, small business, and corporate partnerships to promote long-term academic and/or professional success.

"Mujer Excelencia en Construccion"
Marysela Gonzalez

This award is given to a Mujer that represents a Construction firm that makes extraordinary efforts to reach out to Hispanics and presents opportunities to Build.

"Mujer Excelencia en Relaciones Comunitarias"
Wendy Bruget

This award is given to a Mujer that has demonstrated leadership and extraordinary efforts to improve the quality of our community.

Wendy Bruget has been a government affairs specialist for over 15 years, representing clients ranging from small businesses to non-profit groups and government entities. Based in Southern California, Wendy has established successful relationships at the regional, county, and city levels in the greater Los Angeles area.

"Mujer Excelencia en Iniciativas de Salud"

This award is given to a Mujer that has developed initiatives and targeted programs to improve recruitment, retention and graduation of Latinos in management positions in the health care Industry.

"Mujer Excelencia en Relaciones Gubernamentales y Comunitarias"
Brissa Sotelo

This award is given to a Mujer that has made it a way of life to empower the community and has created and enhanced relations between non-profits and community based organizations.

Brissa Sotelo, M.P.P., believes in the power of community policy - where and how communities can help shape policy as stakeholders. She is especially interested in the ways in which communities influence the operations of private industry - an interest that plays a large role in her job at Tesoro Corporation Los Angeles Refinery.
