Title A Political Economy of the SensesDescription Reading art by Oliver Ressler, Zanny Begg, Claire Fontaine, Jason Lazarus, and Mika Rottenberg, as well as the politics of Occupy Wall Street, Anita Chari identifies practices through which artists and activists challenge the social and political logics of neoliberal capitalism. She shows that the theoretical critique of capitalism needs to be supplemented by what she calls in the title of her book, A Political Economy of the Senses, a mode of active critique that fully engages the sensate, experiential level of subjective transformation. Speaker Anita Chari teaches political theory at the University of Oregon with a focus on the Frankfurt School, Western Marxism, and more recently, on the relationship between somatics and politics. |
