Description | Title The Limits of Bearing Witness: Regina José Galindo's (279) Golpes and El Objetivo Description The work of performance artist Regina José Galindo interrogates how racialized and gendered violence is visually articulated. In works such as (279) Golpes, 2005, and El Objetivo, 2017, Galindo pressures the position of empathic witness in artistic spectatorship, exposing the futility of witnessing as a mode of registering precariousness. This paper extends the questions posed by Galindo's practice to consider the limitations of visuality for representing and comprehending political violence. Speaker Laura Stowell is a PhD student in the Division of Art History. |
