Catharina Manchanda will give a lecture titled "Letter to a Young Artist." Manchanda is originally from Germany and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Stuttgart, her MA from the University of Delaware, and her PhD from CUNY's Graduate Center in New York. Her thesis was on German conceptual photography in the context of Documenta 5 in 1972. She has held curatorial posts at different museums in the United States and joined the Seattle Art Museum in 2011 as the Jon and Mary Shirley Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. She is also currently an Affiliate Professor in the School of Art + Art History + Design. Her most recent exhibition and catalogue that she organized for SAM is Figuring History: Robert Colescott, Kerry James Marshall, Mickalene Thomas, which is on view until May 13. Other artists whom Manchanda has presented in recent years include Martha Rosler, Spencer Finch, Jennifer West, and Denzil Hurley. |
