Paul Bloom, PhD, Brooks and Suzanne Ragen Professor of Psychology, Yale University Crisis? What crisis? An Optimistic View About the Future of Psychology I make three claims about the future of psychology. First, psychologists will become more concerned with neglected yet important domains of everyday life—and less concerned with disciplinary boundaries. Second, psychologists will come to better understand what sort of field they’re in, appreciating how it differs from domains like biology and physics. Third, the future of psychology is bright. In the course of this, I will discuss the replication crisis, criticize the claim that “we should give psychology away,” describe some promising research programs, and tell one or two good jokes. Q&A and light refreshments following. This lecture is made possible by a generous Endowment by the family of Allen. L. Edwards. |
