Description | Marissa Baker, PhD is a Research Scientist and lecturer in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington. Marissa's research has mostly focused on exposure to manganese; in welders, shipyard workers, and foundry workers. Additionally, she has worked on projects assessing ventilation effectiveness in shipyard workers, and assessing safety climate in primary metals manufacturing companies. She organized a speaker series at the University of Washington to explore the Future of Occupational Health, which engaged thought leaders from all over the world to discuss how the field of occupational health may look in the future. She was invited to serve on a World Health Organization working group assessing the carcinogenicity of welding fumes. A native of Washington state, Marissa received her BA in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and her MS and PhD in Occupational Exposure Sciences from University of Washington. |
