Description | Polish cinema is often seen as dark, depressing, and often cryptic with its focus on history. Yet, Martin Scorsese says, “Humor and tragedy are very close in Polish cinema”. This presentation will identify some of these stylistically and thematically different images of Poland in films and photography which combine gloomy with glam, and individual perspectives with trends and genres. Dr. Justyna Budzik is an assistant professor at the Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. Presently, she is a Fulbright Scholar of Polish Studies at the UW Slavic Department. www.lekcjeofilmie.pl www.facebook.com… fundacja3f.org |
