My career path and research interests are aligned to taking a “One Health” approach to addressing public health issues. My primary research focus has been on the control of zoonotic pathogens through interventions at the food animal production and food production levels to reduce the incidence of foodborne illness and/or zoonotic infections in both humans and animals. Since January of this year I have been the Director of the Office of Human and Animal Food Laboratory Operations for the US Food and Drug Administration where I am responsible for the national human and animal food safety laboratory program. Prior to that I was Director of the FDA Pacific Northwest Laboratory (2 years) in Bothell WA where I managed and led comprehensive regulatory human and animal food safety laboratory programs. Before joining FDA I was director of the NY State Food Lab (11 years) after nearly 15 years as a researcher in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University. |
