CoMotion Labs presents, “Startup Mindset” with Magali Dieny Eaton. A question you probably ask yourself about famous innovators is “how did they do it? Were they born with innate innovation skills or did they develop them over a lifetime?” The answer to these questions is encouraging — innovation skills can be learned and developed and it takes a lifetime of practice to perfect them. In this module we will explore the behaviors of highly innovative individuals and provide an opportunity for you to formulate a plan to build your skills. Magali Dieny Eaton is CoMotion’s Innovation Training Program Manager, an intellectual property lawyer and a faculty member at the University of Washington’s school of law. Before joining the university, she practiced law in two major international firms in France and in Seattle. She managed intellectual property portfolios and transactions for clients in a wide breadth of industries, including retail, manufacturing, wine, publishing, luxury goods and gaming. She has also been actively engaged in the community where she revived and grew a youth organization between 2002 and 2013, before getting involved with a French immersion program in Seattle between 2014 and 2016, and the University of Washington’s student leadership program since 2016. Magali joined the law school as faculty in 2014 through the entrepreneurial law clinic, a program pairing law students with mentors to offer legal advice to low income entrepreneurs, and offering legal training for the local startup community. She has additionally taken on the design of CoMotion’s Innovation Training program in 2017. A member of the New York bar, she also holds a Master's degree in international law from Universite Jean Moulin in France, and an LLM from the University of Washington where she originally attended as a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright scholarship. In her free time, she likes to mountaineer, ski, and paint. Each Fundamentals for Startups session has a topic and an area expert providing key insights and knowledge regarding the topic in a 40 minute seminar format followed by a Q&A session. All seminars will be video captured and live streamed. Light refreshments will be served. These sessions are open to the public and you do not have to be currently affiliated with UW or a startup to join. At 1:00 pm, CoMotion Labs and the UW Entrepreneurial Law Clinic present, “Trademark 101/Copyright 101” with Max Faucette & Kerry Lee Andken. The Entrepreneurial Law Clinic (ELC) is an innovative clinic serving entrepreneurs throughout the Pacific Northwest. The ELC teams law and business students with pro bono attorneys and business advisors. Together they provide critical early stage legal and business counseling to technology entrepreneurs, small business owners, social entrepreneurs, nonprofits and University of Washington and Institute for Translational Health Sciences faculty researchers. By providing such counseling, the ELC has become one of the cornerstones of the innovation ecosystem in the Pacific Northwest. We hope to see you there! |
