Title On Being Led by the Nose: William Kentridge and the Arts in an Age of Tyranny Description Jane Taylor has collaborated with artist/director William Kentridge on several occasions. This talk draws on her recent monograph exploring Kentridge’s studio practice while considering the politics of his aesthetics and the aesthetics of his politics. In opening up this terrain, Taylor will reflect on the impact of Soviet Realist art in South Africa while analyzing Stalin’s significance for the oeuvre of Shostakovich, whose opera, The Nose, Kentridge directed for the Metropolitan Opera in 2010.
