Description | UW Program on the Environment graduate Demarus Tevuk Sandlin will give a presentation based on her capstone project titled Defining Sustainability from the Native American Perspective, followed by a discussion. The concept of sustainable behavior is not a new one to humanity and we can learn from our indigenous cultures, who have developed sustainable cultures over thousands of years. All cultures practice their own form of science and Native American science is a holistic system that includes ethics and values. Sustainable traditional ethics and values continue to be taught today. Six traditional sustainable values are discussed, along with how these values are taught to children and how they are enforced through ceremonies, legends, and traditional justice systems. Sponsored by the Baha'i Faith. |
