Description | We are pleased to welcome Chicago-based artist Riva Lehrer, an award-winning painter, writer, and speaker whose work explores issues of identity and cultural depictions of disability. Among her best-known projects is “Circle Stories,” a series of portraits of disabled people with careers in the arts, academia, and activism (website). We're also honored to host a reading & discussion with Nicola Griffith, whose science fiction and historical fiction novels include Ammonite, Slow River, and Hild (website). There will be a poster session of student disability studies research, art, and social justice engagement. We ask that you come fragrance free. There will be ASL interpretation and CART captioning. This event is part of the 2016 Pacific and Western Disability Studies Symposium, MAKING DISABILITY PUBLIC: ARTS, SCHOLARSHIP, AND ACTIVISM. |
