Description | This spring a group of undergraduate and graduate students participated in a new Ethnographic Studio course. Each had conducted previous ethnographic research in their respective disciplines of Anthropology, Comparative History of Ideas, Dance, Education, Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies, and Human Centered Design & Engineering. Over the quarter they developed projects in creative formats that suggest alternatives to the analytic, propositional prose predominant in academic knowledge production. They think of their modes of working in terms of ethnopoetry, experience ethnography, mobile narrative, poetic dialogue, and sensory videography. Please join them for this public presentation of their work. Presentations begin in CMU 120 and continue in CMU 220 (at 2:30 pm) and CMU 218D (at 4 pm). Followed by a reception and informal feedback. This course continues the work of the Simpson Center's Ethnographic Aesthetics speaker series and Winter 2016 microseminar, both led by Sasha Welland (Anthropology and Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies). |
