Description | CRITICAL ISSUES IN CONTEMPORARY ART PRACTICE LECTURE SERIES All seven lectures are free and open to the public, but registration is recommended to save a seat. Register for this lecture. Melanie Gilligan works in video, performance, text, installation, and music. This year, Gilligan exhibited her work in Trondheim kunstmuseum (Norway) and Künstlerhaus—Halle für Kunst & Medien (Austria). Previously, her work has been exhibited at de Appel arts centre (Amsterdam), Casco (Netherlands), The Banff Centre (Canada), Chisenhale Gallery (UK), and Greene Naftali (New York), among many others. In 2012, Gilligan was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Production Grant for her work, The Common Sense. From 2009 to 2011 she was also the recipient of the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Visual Arts. Gilligan holds a BA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK, and was a participant in the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program in New York.
