Description | On Friday, March 7, 2014, over 1,000 immigrants held at the Northwest Detention Center (NWDC), one of the largest immigration prisons in the country, began refusing meals. The hunger strike continued for 56 days, with strikers demanding improved detention conditions and an end to deportations. On the third anniversary of the hunger strike, we reflect on their achievements and look to the common struggles against increasing state policing and incarceration infrastructure in Washington. In this discussion, speakers will address the prison industrial complex, the relationship between racism and xenophobia, and abolition visions of life without cages. Participating panelists join the conversation from: Ending the Prison Industrial Complex (EPIC); Northwest Detention Center Resistance (NWDCR); and Washington Incarceration Stops Here (WISH). |
