Description | Mussa Chiwaula, a disability rights advocate from southern Africa, will present on his experience growing up with a disability in Malawi and the path he followed that led to the development of FEDOMA (The Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi) and to his current role as Secretary General of SAFOD (Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled). He will also discuss the current advocacy efforts and goals of SAFOD. A panel of disability rights advocates and experts will discuss similarities and differences between the US and Southern Africa and ways that participants can meaningfully engage in domestic and international advocacy. Panelists include Ed Holen (Developmental Disability Council), David Carlson (Disability Rights Washington), Shawn Latham (Independent Living Council & Allies in Advocacy), and Stacy Gillett (Arc of King County). Stephen Meyers (Law, Societies, and Justice & International Studies) will serve as moderator. |
