Description | JaneFest is an all-day celebration of the life and work of Jane Austen at the University of Washington. It marks 200 years since her death in 1817, and is complemented by similar festivals around the world. The event includes a festival offering expo-style informational booths and participatory activities 1-5:30 pm (free), and a Regency Ball with dancing to a live band and caller 7-10 pm (sold out). Costumes admired but not required! At the festival, learn about Austen’s life, times, and work, including Regency cooking, clothing, and embroidery. Try your hand at Regency card games such as whist, and try your feet at Regency-style dances! Activities include crafts, trivia, a visit to UW Special Collections, discussions of Austen’s fiction, dance workshops, a photo booth, fashion shows, and more. We are also hosting JaneWeek, a series of lead-up events. These include a Regency Dance Workshop (sold out) and a Regency Clothing Workshop (sold out). |
