Learn about pelisses and cravats, muslin gowns and riding coats, and even get the chance to see authentic Regency dress from the Henry Art Gallery collection! Using artifacts from the time period of Jane Austen’s life (1775-1817), fashion historian and Jane Austen Society of North America-Puget Sound President Agnes Gawne will discuss the changing styles of this exciting period in history that contains many important events (such as the American and French Revolutions, the Napoleonic Wars, the American Federal Period, and the War of 1812.) Her presentation will show examples from portraiture and from extant clothing that are similar to the items that will be available for viewing from the Henry Collection.
