| | Description | We invite you to attend the fourth annual Praxis Conference on the UW Seattle campus (Haggett Hall) on Friday, February 9th 9:30-3:00. Registration is now open and available here: goo.gl…. There is no cost for attendance and lunch, but registration should be submitted by February 2nd. The Praxis Conference draws on the activist educator Paolo Freire’s conception of praxis as the intersection of theory and practice. Faculty, staff, students, instructors and community partners share insights to enrich both our local/situated and broader understandings of writing, teaching and learning practices, and their personal, academic, and public impacts. It is a lively forum to connect and continue conversations about the important work that takes place across learning contexts. The theme for Praxis 2018 is “Translation Practices: Negotiating Difference,” and we will be using this focus to examine uses of language and literacy in practical, inclusive, critical, and applied ways. Our keynote speaker, Nancy Bou Ayash from the English Department, will be giving a presentation titled “(Re)Writing Translation into Visibility in Teaching Writing.” We are excited by the many interdisciplinary and diverse voices across and beyond our UW community that will be participating in the conference this year. For more information about the Praxis Conference, please visit our website: english.washington.edu…. Feel free to contact Praxis Conference Chair Holly Shelton (hshelton@uw.edu) or Co-Chair Sumyat Thu (smthu@uw.edu) with any questions. If you would like to volunteer at Praxis Conference 2018, please contact Conference Co-Coordinator Sara Lovett (slovett@uw.edu). Feel free to distribute this invitation widely to those who would be interested. |
