Description | Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a Polish-American national hero, was truly a man ahead of his time. In the 18th century he fought for universal liberty and equality for all, including native people and slaves, Polish peasants and Jews, and women. He was one of George Washington’s most important military strategists and engineers. His plans led to an American victory at the Battle of Saratoga - a turning point in the Revolutionary War. As an accomplished military engineer, Kosciuszko designed and oversaw the construction of state-of-the-art fortifications, including the West Point. The documentary film Kosciuszko: A Man Ahead of His Time paints a compelling picture of Kosciuszko as a champion of freedom and civil rights both in the United States and Poland. It was written and directed by Alex Storozynski and is based on his book The Peasant Prince: Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Age of Revolution. Storozynski, a former president of the Kosciuszko Foundation and a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, will be presenting Kosciuszko: A Man Ahead of His Time with leading actor, Olek Krupa, who lately starred in Hidden Figures. |
