Description | As a culture, we’re under-moved. But to be healthy individuals, movement matters more than many give it credit for. From the internal (we have trillions of cells that respond positively to movement) to the external (convenience ultimately translates to someone else moving for you), the degree to which we move defines us. Let’s take steps to make sure it defines us for the better! Moving more means more than doing a set of exercises for an hour a day. What we do in those other 23 hours matters just as much. In this talk on movement, we’ll cover some simple tips to implement into your routine when you’re not exercising. You’ll learn ways to sit and stand at your desk that also work your muscles (not like lifting weights—don’t worry) and align your joints for better health and mobility. You’ll also get ideas on how to move outside the office: at home, on errands, etc., and learn how moving more can drastically reduce your carbon footprint and help you becoming a better world citizen. A handout and links to some great resources will be included, as well as a discount on any movement classes Laura teaches. Laura is a research scientist in the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine. In addition to being a Chi Running and Chi Walking Instructor for eleven years, she has recently been certified as a Restorative Exercise Specialist via Nutritious Movement. She enjoys helping others find the ease of movement in all aspects of life - running, walking, and getting life done. |
