Description | This presentation and workshop will explore ways to teach effective and appropriate source use in academic writing. We will delve into the non-malicious reasons that lead some students to plagiarize, and we will discuss responses to plagiarism that prompt learning about academic writing in the Anglophone Academic Discourse Community. We intend to show that effective source integration and citation in writing is a skill that can and should be explicitly taught and actively practiced, and that as a skill, development requires practice ––even failure––on the way to competence. Presented by: Rebecca Disrud, Writing Center Coordinator, Kelvin Keown, English Language Specialist, and Asao Inoue, Associate Professor and Director of University Writing Program |
