Join us in welcoming Dr. Melvin Rouse, Jr., for a discussion on: Sex As a Spectrum: How Hormonal Organization and Activation of the Songbird Brain Could Inform Our Understanding of Identity One of the most intriguing aspects of singing in songbirds, is that it is learned in a manner that is very similar to human speech. Further, there are clearly defined sex-based differences we can observe in this behavior and its supporting brain structure. These patterns can inform how we understand sex-based differences in human brain and behavior, namely, how the sex of the brain itself can be disconnected from other biological indicators of sex (e.g. XX/XY chromosomes and being female or male bodied). |
