DESCRIPTION:CWB's February talk will in fact be a Third Friday Film Nigh
t\, courtesy of Antidote Films. DVD copies of the film will be available
at the event.\n\nCHARLOTTE is a film about an extraordinary boatyard\,
the Gannon & Benjamin Marine Railway\, located on the island of Martha's
Vineyard\, Massachusetts. Ross Gannon and Nat Benjamin established the
boatyard in 1980 with the purpose of designing\, building\, and maintai
ning traditionally built wooden boats\, and in the process they transfor
med Vineyard Haven harbor into a mecca for wooden boat owners and enthus
iasts. After a long career of designing and constructing boats for othe
rs\, Nat embarks on building a 50 foot gaff rigged schooner for use by h
is family and friends — her name is Charlotte. Through close observatio
n of the everyday activities of the boatyard\, the film emerges as a med
 itation on tradition\, craftsmanship\, family\, community\, our relation
ship to nature\, and love of the sea.\n\nPrior to the screening of CHAR
LOTTE\, CWB will also screen a short documentary created about the Lake
Union Underwater Archaeology project by students at the Art Institute of
Seattle.\n\nEach month CWB finds a speaker of wit and experience to tal
k about his or her special knowledge. It is also an opportunity for CWB
members to meet one another and the staff. Admission is free and refresh
ments are served (donations to cover costs are appreciated).\n\nSupport
for the 2012 Third Friday Speaker Series comes from Three Sheets Northwe
