Monday, June 17, 2013, 9 – 10:15am

With Noreen Dillman

Moderate Kripalu-Style Yoga. Each class includes centering, pranayama (breathwork), postures, and meditation, and ends with a period of deep relaxation to revitalize the major systems of the body. Postures are held for a longer period of time than a gentle yoga class. You are encouraged to find the balance between effort and relaxation. In a moderate class, you will drop a little deeper and explore self-awareness, while learning to listen to your body and not to external distractions.

My mat is a place I return to again and again to quiet my mind, connect with body and breath, and to be reminded that I am a part of something much bigger than myself.” Catherine began practicing yoga ten years ago as a way to effectively deal with stress and later experienced yoga’s power as a health system using it to strengthen and heal an injured shoulder without surgery. “My practice has expanded to include not only asana but also breath work, meditation, and the study of yogic philosophy.
Ashtanga Light

Monday, June 17, 2013, 5:30 – 6:45pm

with Jack Lynch.

This is a challenging power-yoga-based practice which develops strength and endurance. It is based on the classical yoga system as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Class structure will be similar to the primary Ashtanga sequence in terms of tempo and posture progression. Modifications from the classical style will include selected position substitutions, posture variations offered, and alignment considerations. This method produces an intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The practice can be both athletic and meditative which results in improved circulation, a light and strong body and a calm mind.

Jack's bio:

Jack Lynch received his formal training from renowned teachers Beryl Bender Birch and David Swenson. These accomplished mentors have instilled in Jack a deep understanding of the ancient Ashtanga system (both first and second series), and imparted an abundance of skillful adjustment techniques.

Jack has also studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Ana Forrest, Nancy Gilgoff and Doug Swenson. Through continuous study and practice he is able to offer not only primary and second series Ashtanga classes, but also unique classes inspired by these other distinguished teachers.

You will enjoy the way Jack's sense of humor and compassion puts you at ease while fostering a safe environment in which to work the body.

Wednesday, June 19, 2013, 5:30 – 6:45pm

Restore balance to your life with Yin Yoga. This class will gently
apply stresses on the tissues of your body that yang yoga and exercise
cannot. The result is strengthened joints and connective tissue.
Many modern people feel anxiety and paradoxically a lack of energy.
By applying pressure to many of the meridians of the body this class
will work to restore the healthy flow of energy, reducing anxiety and
accessing energy by unblocking its flow.

Mark's Bio:
Mark has enjoyed a regular yoga practice since 2006. In the first few
years he practiced at home using DVD’s. In 2009 he suffered from
chronic back pain, fusion of two vertebral bones was recommended. An
aversion to surgery, Mark stopped lifting weights and running and took
his yoga practice to the next level. He worked with Ana Forrest doing
intensive work for two weeks. He immediately followed this with a
regular Bikram practice. Mark continues to have a strong Yang
practice and has balanced it out with Yin yoga. He also enjoys
Vinyāsa, Kundalini and Dharma yoga.
Mark has been teaching since 2011, he completed his 200 hours of
training with Paul and Suzee Grilley in 2012 and obtained his 200 RYT.
He has also studied with Sarah Powers and Dashama Gordon.
Yoga has relieved Mark of his back pain and it has helped to change
his life in many ways. His desire is to share the life changing
benefits that yoga has to offer with others.

What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga classes focus on simple floor postures that stretch and stimulate the deep connective tissues of the body through remaining in the postures for longer periods of time than other forms of yoga that focus primarily on the muscular system. It is accessible to practioners of any tradition and any experience level. Based on Chinese medicine, acupuncture and meridian theory, the Yin practice will strengthen chi flow to maintain the health and vitality of the body and organ system. Yin Yoga is the ideal complement to any exercise program, athletic activity and to the stresses of everyday life.

Maeve also offers modifications for students, offering beginner to advanced students the opportunity to experience improved posture, increased strength, and overall awareness of their mind and body.

Bio:
Maeve Ryan has been practicing yoga for over 11 years. In turn, she was able to lower her blood pressure and relieve the symptoms of Lyme disease.

Maeve has studied various forms of yoga including: Hatha, Vinyasa, Power, and Kundalini Yoga.
Saturday, June 22, 2013, 1 – 5pm

with Doug Green
3.5 CEU hours.
$45

This ancient technique first appeared in the Upanishads, the sacred writings of Ancient India. Prana means "Universal intelligent life-force energy", and Dharana means "concentration". By learning to direct the Prana with your own concentration, you can send healing to any physical body part, any emotional/mental issue. We will learn this technique together, first by becoming totally relaxed using Yoga breathing and stretching, and then by focusing the mind using several specific Yogic techniques.

Doug received his spiritual name Shivaraj at a naming ceremony in the year-long Acharya Intensive, an ashram of 12 students invited to learn the teachings of Swami Kripalu. Shiva is a name for the aspect of life relating to transformation. Doug teaches that the process of transformation is one of "involution and evolution", whereby we compassionately accept and absorb into ourselves that which we habitually deny or avoid. By learning to accept all of these qualities as aspects of ourselves, we then evolve and grow. Teaching Yoga classes and workshops is Doug's way of sharing this truth with others.

Doug has studied the Eastern metaphysical and mystical arts and sciences - Yoga, Reiki, Pranic Healing, Ayurveda and Yoga Tantra - on a continuing basis since 1972. He received his Reiki Master training and initiation from William Lee Rand, and studied with Gail Bentley Walsh, founder of Yoga Mountain in New York for his 200-hour Yoga Teacher training. He then went on to Kripalu Center for Yoga for his 500-hour Yoga Teacher training certification. While there, he studied under disciples of the Indian Kundalini Yoga Master Swami Kripalu, who continue to guide him along his path to this day.

Doug credits his practice of Yoga for helping to mange stress and to maintain his health, both physically and mentally. He enjoys snowboarding, hiking, surfing, woodworking and boatbuilding, photography, music and the arts.

The owner of Greene and Company, a successful accounting and investment advisory company, Doug and his wife reside in rural Connecticut.

Monday, June 24, 2013, 5:30 – 6:45pm

with Jack Lynch.

We will improve our joint flexibility, strengthen our muscles, stimulate our glandular and endocrine systems (to tamper those hormonal fluctuations), sharpen our focus and concentration, and try to slow the aging process.

This class is designed for students with some experience and knowledge of yoga postures. It is a moderately paced class, including asana, breathing practices, and mantra; longer warm ups, more modifications and props are used to help us to honor our bodies.

Everyone can be fabulous over 50-just start where you are!

Laurel Soper, a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified teacher, has been practicing yoga since 1999. She has studied under Kripalu, Iyengar, Anusara and Ashtanga trained teachers. "In the past, yoga has helped me recover from a meiscus and ACL surgery, and recently to navigate the shift as an empty nester.
Wednesday, June 26, 2013, 12 – 8pm

To book call or email Sacred Rivers Yoga
info@sacredriversyoga.com
860-657-9545

Readings will be held:
Wednesday, May 8th, 12:00 - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, May 22nd, 12:00 - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, June 12th, 12:00 - 8:00 PM
Wednesday, June 26th, 12:00 - 8:00 PM

Consultations are 50 minutes at Sacred Rivers Yoga. You must provide your birth time, date and place to Gauri.
Email: gauri.jyotish@gmail.com Phone: 1 860-205 -7263. Please come with specific questions or request a general reading.

Jyotish is based on the Vedic scriptures. These are the main body of sacred texts in India that came long before Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. This astrology is based on birth time and shows your prabadha karma (lessons you are working out in the life time).

Nothing is unknown. All challenges and problems are karmic. Using the science of Jyotish we can have the knowledge to understand these negative influences. We can then make the proper choices and use necessary remedies to create a brighter future. Jyotish is a natural complement to yoga.

This astrology is unique and gives you guidance on your path of life. These readings are very detailed as I spend over an hour looking over the chart ahead of time which is not usually done by most astrologers. I provide spiritual remedies as well as grounded advice.
This is perfect for you if you want to deepen your spirituality, if you are going through a difficult time, or wondering what will happen in your life. Some karma is written in stone, some in sand and some in water. By being aware of the patterns in your life and having knowledge of things to come, you can make harmonious choices in your life. We look at life from a day to day view but with astrology we can look at patterns from a deeper perspective. Remember, not all karma is written in stone, don’t be afraid to learn what is happening for you. This knowledge empowers you to create a brighter future.
Gauri has been living the last 6 years with her Guru in India. Her training was given by an Indian monastic whose family has done Jyotish (Vedic astrology) for generations. She has a degree in psychology and is in training to become a priest. Gauri has been practicing yoga and meditation for 13 years.

Wednesday, June 26, 2013, 5:30 – 6:45pm

Breathing and energy flow are integral to this
practice, and modifications are offered. She gives many thanks to this studio for the wonderful classes, workshops, and community programs..

A passionate yoga student since 1998, I completed my 200 hour teacher training at Sacred Rivers Yoga in 2007. I fell in love with yoga because of the peace and acceptance that each practice brings to me. Yoga has taught me to bring breath and energy into everything I do, and provides me with an overall sense of calm and well being.

My class provides careful instruction on alignment and breath, and encourages each student to become aware of their physical and emotional self. Students are encouraged to listen to their bodies as we explore different levels of poses. We will find stillness and by holding poses longer.

There may be longer holdings of specific poses to get into those places in the body that don’t get accessed nearly enough in our daily lives.

Built around the ancient practice of Sun Salutations, vinyasa classes can be anywhere from gentle to dynamic. In a typical vinyasa class, we will flow to inspiration with many variations of sun salutations including more continuous flow with the option of advanced poses. As always, modifications will be offered and I’ll encourage you to listen to your own body and take care as it feels appropriate.

Temple Symonds, RYT 500 Bio:

Temple has been teaching yoga since 2005 at yoga studios in Connecticut and New York.
Monday, July 1, 2013, 5:30 – 6:45pm

with Jack Lynch.

Classes begin with centering, followed by floor warm ups and core work to properly prepare the major joints and the spine for movement. Modifications and props are offered to adjust poses when needed, in order to maintain body alignment, thus creating more ease in the body. Stacey and her mom did yoga in chairs to help her mom regain mobility, manage stress and combat fatigue. This profound experience brought Stacey to the teacher training program at Sacred Rivers where she trained and became a 200RYT. Her love of yoga deepened as well as her belief that yoga is truly for every body. Stacey's yoga classes focus on the mechanics of movement, alignment, mental awareness, and the balance of effort and ease to feel the power and benefits of each yoga posture. She encourages her students to challenge themselves physically as well as to connect mindfully to their practice.

More info: http…

Wednesday, July 3, 2013, 5:30 – 6:45pm
