DESCRIPTION:The sound of gravel crunching beneath the tires of the hears
e as it rolls through the iron gates. In the distance a lone fiddle crie
s to the grey dawn. An alabaster stone marks the spot where the hearse p
ulls to a final stop. After all\, who called for the undertakers?\n\nGer
trude’s Hearse is a band hailing from Skagit Valley\, Washington. The ba
nd was formed atop the hill by a bunch a good fellas and guitarist Raymo
nd John: adding Yusuf Kilgore\, Matt Clausen\, Keith Stone\, Tim Daniels
and a plethora of other players to become one of the areas hottest band
 s. In a three year period\, they have built an outstanding repertoire of
  music ranging from folk\, country\, and rock\, to bluegrass\, R&B\, and
punk. No one else has their style\, their energy\, or their theme. Gert
rude’s Hearse has the flexibility and versatility to perform with some o
r all of its members. They can readily cater to the more intimate as an
 acoustic-style duo/trio or elaborate with an all-out rock & roll 7+ piec
 e grandstand-style band.\n\nGertrude (grrr-trood)\nAn old-time name repr
esenting the style of music from which the band bases its sound. They ar
e equally comfortable playing acoustically\, around a single can microph
one\, or plugged into a PA on-stage. Versatility has been an important f
actor in their early success as a band.\n\nHearse (her-sss)\nA car used
to transport a coffin to a burial site. It is also a somewhat taboo word
in the English language\, not often used and retaining a sort of myster
 y. The name of the band is hard to get out of the heads of those who hav
e said it aloud or read it in print. It also offers a theme for the band
's logos\, artwork\, and trademark. This too has played a key role in th
e band's early notoriety in the area.\n\nThe undertakers and country-roc
k-folk-grassin' singers gaining quite a reputation in the Pacific Northw
est are commonly known as Gertrude's Hearse. They are fast becoming lege
nd\, often imitated\, and never reproduced. Look for them makin their wa
y through your town soon. Mothers watch yer daughters\, fathers git yur
guns\, brothers watch yer tongues\, and everyone git ready for a shin sp
littin good time when Gertrude's Hearse rolls into town.\n\nhttp://gertr
udeshearse.com\n\nTaking its name from the nearby scenic highway\, Belli
ngham\, Washington band Chuckanut Drive's sound often weaves over the li
nes separating musical styles. Chuckanut Drive counts such rock icons as
The Rolling Stones\, Bob Dylan\, The Band and The Beatles among its man
y influences\; the band also tips its hat to earlier American songwriter
s such as Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson\, as well as contemporary artist
s like Wilco and Whiskeytown.\n\nThe band started to take form in 1999 w
hen songwriter/guitarist Steve Leslie and longtime partner-in-crime\, ba
ssist Aaron Ansley\, talked about starting a band. Leslie had originally
moved to Bellingham to get away from music and finish college\; Leslie'
s previous band Bloomsday had called it quits after a year on the road\,
a full-length album and two EPs. Bellingham's budding music scene and w
ealth of talented musicians\, however\, kept Leslie from abandoning his
musical ambitions entirely.\n\nAfter early rotations in the lineup\, Les
lie and Ansley began to jam with jazz drummer Erik Anderson and guitaris
t Mark Sobolesky. Nearly two years of gigs and dues-paying followed befo
re the band parted ways with Sobolesky and entered into a short hiatus w
hile searching for a new guitarist.\n\nIn February 2003\, Leslie spotted
Wastelanders guitarist Loren Huggins at the famous 3B Tavern - long-tim
 e heart-and-soul of Bellingham's live music scene - and approached him a
bout joining the band. After a brief session\, Huggins was on board as C
huckanut Drive's new lead guitarist\, giving the band the energy it need
ed to get back on stage. With its self-titled debut album in the can\, t
he band is once again hitting the road with a newfound fervor to share i
ts music.\n\nThe band isn't afraid to blend old sounds with new\, and do
es so with soul and skill. Leslie's songs radiate a human warmth rarely
heard in today's popular music. Chuckanut Drive plays pop music\, but Le
slie's lyrics often have an intimacy you would expect to find in a folk
singer. Chuckanut Drive plays rock music\, but Huggins' twangy guitar li
nes evoke a sprit of the by-gone honky-tonk era. The result is the vibra
nt sound of an American band carrying on an American musical tradition.

DESCRIPTION:$8 cover - $6 with a donation of canned food!\n\nELDRIDGE GR
AVY & THE COURT SUPREME is a funk juggernaut. Backed by the hot\, gritty
orchestration of the 10-person Court Supreme\, frontman Eldridge Gravy
easily works dancefloors to a fever pitch with his full-bore performance
and smooth rapport with the audience.\n\nThe band\, like so many of its
members\, is the product of a wonderful accident. Early in 2006\, in wh
at was supposed to be a one-off event\, an instrumental band teamed up w
ith a guest singer to learn some James Brown and Parliament covers for a
moving-out party. The next morning\, the house was torn up\, shattered
glass everywhere\, tables broken\, and the landlord was on his way for t
he final walk-through. In the wake of this carnage\, ELDRIDGE GRAVY & TH
E COURT SUPREME was born.\n\nThe group quickly picked up horns\, keys\,
backup singers\, and were soon 11 men and women strong. Originals soon r
eplaced covers\, sounding like a viscous blend of the songs they cut the
ir teeth on -- Sly and The Family Stone\, Funkadelic\, and James Brown a
re touchstones for their sound\, but Eldridge Gravy has a distinct sound
and persona that's unmistakably their own. While Eldridge Gravy fit in
with the recent soul revival heralded by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings
\, they have also played alongside hip hop crews\, balkan brass groups\,
and scuzzy bar rock bands. Their high energy\, tight arrangements\, and
massive stage presence have the power to convince any crowd that funk ai

DESCRIPTION:After six years of musical collaboration\, experimentation\,
and honing of craft\, the four original members of Seattle’s former Bro
ken Bottle Band have added to their lineup\, intensified their sound\, a
nd united in 2009 to form the jam rock sextet\, Zero Gravity Circus. Thr
ough the past half-decade\, these young musicians have added sonically a
nd philosophically to their sounds\, ideas\, and goals. The new force th
at has arisen both harkens back to the pure musicianship of groups like
The Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead\, while consistently tackling
the progression of rock\, evolving the proven forms into contemporary ex
perimentation. Zero Gravity Circus is bringing back high energy rock\, g
oing new places\, and not looking back…\n\nWhile originally inspired by
classic rock-god guitarists like Hendrix and Garcia\, lead guitarist Ada
m Williams has since spent five years in the Deep South. His time in New
Orleans has indoctrinated the primal American art forms of jazz and blu
es into his playing and attitude. Funk\, swing\, blues\, and rock elemen
ts have all found permanent homes in his sound\, giving Zero Gravity Cir
cus a unique and diverse appeal.\n\nBacking Adam is rhythm guitarist Bra
d DiJulio\, an accomplished player in both electric and acoustic setting
 s. Brad’s father Brian\, who has a musical background as well playing in
a band for a good portion of his life\, taught him to play the drums as
a kid. The result was a percussionist style of rhythm guitar. Since his
early days of playing\, Brad has been obsessed with the art of song com
position and pens a good portion of the band’s tunes in pursuit of devel
oping his craft.\n\nDrummer Nick Heilbrunn truly exemplifies the adventu
resome quality of Zero Gravity Circus. Nick credits his mentor\, local v
irtuoso drummer Todd Zimberg\, for his drumming chops and passion for mu
sic. His unique drumming style is an organic product of his eccentric pe
rsonality. His quirky spirit and quest for finding new levels of musical
satisfaction makes Nick one of the most exciting\, unpredictable\, and
downright fascinating drummers around.\n\nAt 16\, Sean Lynch began bass
lessons with a jazz trumpeter named Jeff Lewis in a small music shop in
San Jose\, California. Since moving to the Northwest\, Lynch has studied
under bass virtuosos including Jason Schooler\, Anna Doak and Farko Dos
umov\, as well as the musical mentoring of Laura and David Ash. Though S
ean is already an incredible bass player\, he is a student of music firs
t and foremost\, constantly exploring new musical realms with a fearless
yet laid-back attitude.\n\nBeing exposed to a wide variety of musical s
tyles while studying piano growing up Tyler Carr has emerged as a monste
r ..s in every style of music that Zero Gravity Circus dives into. Playi
ng music in high school with Brad\, Adam\, and Nick\, made Tyler realize
that music had to be a central part of his life\, a way of expressing h
imself\, and a forum for challenge and creativity. Whether it is a heart
felt ballad or a boogie-down blues\, Tyler is guaranteed to filter pure
emotion and honesty to his incendiary piano playing on a nightly basis.
\n\nWill Carlisle joined the band as a sax player\, but since has added m
ore than anybody could have foreseen. Will has been studying music since
age 5 and credits his Dad and sax-player Neil Stafford as his primary m
usic teachers and mentors. His influences range from The Brecker Brother
s to The Meters to J.S. Bach. On stage\, his performances are jaw droppi
ng\, the control of his instrument is refreshing\, and his presence is c
aptivating.\n\n2009 has never been a finer time for these guys to shine.
Zero Gravity Circus is riding the Northwest winds this summer\, going a
s far as their fans want to take them. Be ready to experience high flyin
g rock as you’ve never heard or seen before. So step right up\, ladies a
nd gents\, and get yo’ spot at the Zero Gravity Circus.\n\nhttp://www.my
space.com/zerogravitycircus\n\nSnug Harbor\,the premier funk band based
out of Bellingham\, consists of seven members. Each member brings a uniq
ue talent and natural sound\, from the organ hitting every perfect key\,
to Will pouring his soul into his lyrics. Their music gives a true Eart
hy feel with their melodic guitar rifts\, but can dramatically change in
to a hard hitting funky bass line." ~WCC Horizon \n\nSnug Harbor existen
ce lies in its roots to explore the significance behind music. Those who
create for pure profit are mere pieces to an industrial machine. Music
is about spontaneity and innovation\, not wealth. Everyone needs money\,
but when the sole motive for creation is based upon wealth\, significan
ce is surely lost. The mission of the music we play is to bring positivi
sm and imagination to the minds of the audience through unadulterated gr
 ooves.\n\nhttp://www.myspace.com/snugharbormusic

DESCRIPTION:Bay Area-based songwriter Brittany Shane is set to release h
er new CD Have Heart Live Young on Painted Lady Records in September 200
 9. The Wisconsin-born and raised songstress has been on a spell of writi
ng and playing over the past decade or so\, and the fruits of her labor
are obviously starting to pay off. Brittany’s sonic offspring\, having w
on the good graces of a laundry list of top notch music makers\, includi
ng Grammy-nominated mix engineer\, Joe Chiccarelli\, producer Zack Smith
(founding member of the ‘80s group Scandal)\, Shane\, offers the sort o
f timeless songwriting on par with Brit cult group the Sundays\, the Ban
gles\, Beth Orton or Mazzy Star.\n\nPerhaps it’s her down-to-earth Midwe
stern charm and the fine sense of humor conveyed in her songs that make
you wish you could step through your speakers and into a bar\, where she
’ll be waiting with a beer. Sure\, she makes pure pop for now people\, b
ut the tunes reach out in all different directions: “One Station” has a
 melody that doesn’t leave your head long after its 3 ½ minutes are up\;
“Over Your Shoulder\,” conjures a sensuous urgency we’ve heard more rece
ntly from bands like Metric\; and the title track\, “Have Heart Live You
ng\,” is a foot-tapper on par with the Bangles\, circa “Different Light
 \,” shimmering backing vocals n’ all. But it’s Brittany’s every-girl that
comes shining through in the end. We get the impression that punk rock
kids\, soccer moms and convicted felons can embrace the stuff with equal
devotion\, and we say that in a good way\, of course.\n\nhttp://www.mys
pace.com/brittanyshane\n\nEveryone who hears Anthony Monaco’s music says
the same thing: “I can’t believe this isn’t on the radio.” Spending his
  time writing\, arranging\, engineering\, producing\, directing\, and si
nging his music has left little time left over for promotion. Now its ti
me to change that.\n\nA true lover of music but also a staunch music cri
tic\, Anthony Monaco writes the music he wishes he heard on the radio. E
njoying styles from Metal\, to Pop\, to big band Swing\, you can hear al
l of these influences in his creations. There is an intriguing range of
styles in his songs. From the poppy acoustic up-tempo “Gimme Luv” to the
more tempered and thoughtful “Impressions” to the hard-edge of “Long Wa
y To Go”\, Anthony Monaco covers a range of emotions.\n\n“I tried to jus
t write in one genre of music People would see a show and listen to demo
s and say: ‘just write more songs like this one’” – I can’t do it. Songs
are whole worlds unto themselves. If I’m angry\, its hard for me to wri
te with an acoustic guitar. I want an electric guitar with the distortio
 n cranked up to 11. If I’m happy\, I want bouncing drums. I have to be t
rue to the emotion I’m feeling.” \n\nhttp://www.myspace.com/anthonymonac

DESCRIPTION:The Satellite 4 was literally born on the bricks of Beale St
reet\, in the heart of Memphis. An organ player from Maryland met a guit
ar player from Idaho and a drummer from Nevada while they were all holdi
ng down the International Blues Festival in Tennessee.\n\nA bit later\,
in Seattle (a place not quite known for its soul)\, we found our bass ma
n - the city's own soul evangelist\, preaching the blues on sunday morni

it.\n\nBring everything to a rolling boil\, and here we are... playing t
he greasy\, gritty\, tempermental offspring of a cold lonesome night fif
ty years ago somewhere in the swampland between Tenessee\, Arkansas\, an
d Mississippi... when gospel\, rock'n'roll\, blues\, and country all fou
nd eachother and wouldn't let go.\n\nhttp://www.myspace.com/thesatellite
