Brock Clarke is the author of five books, most recently Exley and An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England. His stories and essays have appeared in the Virginia Quarterly Review, OneStory, The Believer, the Georgia Review, the Southern Review and have appeared in the annual Pushcart Prize and New Stories from the South anthologies and on NPR’s "Selected Shorts." He lives in Portland, ME, and teaches creative writing at Bowdoin College.

The son of Hungarian refugees, Tibor Fischer was born in Stockport in 1959. His first novel, Under the Frog, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1993. He is the author of four other novels, The Thought Gang, The Collector Collector, Voyage to the End of the Room and Good to be God. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, his work has been published in 25 languages. He is program director for the master’s in creative writing at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Reading with Corinna Vallianatos and John Capouya

Corinna Vallianatos's story collection, My Escapee, won the 2011 AWP Grace Paley Prize for Short Fiction, selected by Jhumpa Lahiri, and was published by the University of Massachusetts Press in October 2012. Her stories have appeared in Tin House, McSweeney’s, Cincinnati Review, The Collagist, and elsewhere, and included as one of “100 Other Distinguished Stories of 2008″ in the Best American Short Stories 2009 anthology. The recipient of a fellowship from the MacDowell Colony, she lives in Burlington, Vermont with her husband and son.

John Capouya is an assistant professor of journalism and writing at The University of Tampa. He was previously a features editor at Newsweek, The New York Times, New York Newsday, and SmartMoney magazine, among other media outlets. His teaching specialties are feature writing and nonfiction narrative. Capouya regularly contributes feature stories and book reviews to The Tampa Bay Times and Fortune magazine’s site, fortune.com.

Reading with Author, Filmmaker and Artist Miranda July

Miranda July is a filmmaker, artist and writer. Her videos, performances and Web-based projects have been presented at sites such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum and in two Whitney Biennials. July wrote, directed and starred in her first feature-length film, Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005), which won a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival and four prizes at the Cannes Film Festival, including the Camera d’Or. Miranda July’s most recent film is The Future (2011), which she wrote and directed and stars in.
Her fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, Harper’s, and The New Yorker; her collection of stories, No One Belongs Here More Than You (Scribner, 2007), won the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award and has been published in twenty countries. Her latest book is It Chooses You (McSweeney’s, 2011).

Reading with Josip Novakovich and Barbara Ras

Josip Novakovich moved from Croatia to the U.S. at the age of 20. He has published a novel, April Fool's Day, three story collections (Infidelities: Stories of War and Lust, Yolk and Salvation and Other Disasters) and two collections of narrative essays as well as two books of practical criticism, including Fiction Writers Workshop. Novakovich has been a writing fellow of the New York Public Library and has taught at Bard College, Die Freie Universitaet in Berlin, Penn State and now, Concordia University in Montreal.

Barbara Ras is the author of the poetry collections Bite Every Sorrow (LSU Press, 1998), chosen by C. K. Williams to receive the 1997 Walt Whitman Award and also awarded the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, One Hidden Stuff (Penguin, 2006), and The Last Skin (Penguin, 2010), which won the 2011 Award for Poetry from the Texas Institute of Letters. Ras lives in San Antonio, where she directs Trinity University Press.

Steve Kistulentz is a poet and fiction writer. His first book of poems, The Luckless Age, was selected by Nick Flynn as the winner of the 2010 Benjamin Saltman Award and will be published in early 2011 by Red Hen Press. He currently is an assistant professor of English at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.

Donald Morrill is the author of four books of nonfiction, Impetuous Sleeper, The Untouched Minutes (River Teeth Nonfiction Prize), Sounding for Cool (American Library Association/AAUP “Best of the Presses” Award) and A Stranger’s Neighborhood. He is also the author of two volumes of poetry, At the Bottom of the Sky and With Your Back to Half the Day.

Heather Sellers, who received her doctorate in writing from Florida State University, is the author of the award-winning memoir, You Don’t Look Like Anyone I Know: a true story of family, face blindness, and forgiveness, an Oprah book of the month club selection.

Reading with National Book Award Winner Denis Johnson

Denis Johnson is an author who is known for his short-story collection Jesus' Son (1992) and his novel Tree of Smoke (2007), which won the U.S. National Book Award for Fiction. Johnson came to prominence after the publication of his short story collection Jesus' Son (1992), which was adapted into the 1999 film of the same name, which was named one of the top ten films of the year by the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and Roger Ebert. He also writes plays, poetry, and non-fiction. "Train Dreams", a novella originally published in the Paris Review in 2002, was published as a novel in 2011 and was a finalist for that year's Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Jessica Anthony is the author of The Convalescent (McSweeney’s/Grove), an ALA Adult Notable Book and Barnes & Noble “Discover Great New Writers” selection, and Chopsticks (Penguin/Razorbill), a multimedia novel created in collaboration with the creative director at Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Rodrigo Corral.

Stefan Kiesbye received an MFA in creative writing from the University of Michigan. His stories, poems and essays have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies, and his first book, Next Door Lived a Girl, won the Low Fidelity Press Novella Award. The German edition was a KrimiWelt Top Ten crime novel pick for four consecutive months. The book has also been translated into Dutch and Spanish.

Jeff Parker is the author of the novel Ovenman (Tin House) and the story collection The Taste of Penny (Dzanc). He is the co-editor of the anthologies Rasskazy: New Fiction from a New Russia (Tin House) and Amerika: Russian Writers View the United States (Dalkey Archive).
