Hudson Williams, a local artist and carver who has been painting for 25 years is showing his acrylic paintings, hangings and fish carvings at UUCOB. Williams has been in all the major wildlife shows up and down the East Coast and has won many awards. He will give a brief talk about his work during the reception. He moved to the Outer Banks in 1997 and has been teaching art here for the past 13 years.

Attendees are encouraged to bring some food to share during the art reception following the Sunday service.

"Singing the Journey" Celebration - NEW DATE

This month we began a fundraiser to purchase the 15 remaining “Singing the Journey” hymnal supplements that would not be covered by the Program Committee budget. Already we have raised enough funds to not only cover the cost of 15, but all 30 copies. THANK YOU!!!

The “Singing the Journey” Celebration scheduled for Sunday, 11/22, following the Thanks Giving Table service, will truly be a celebration. UUCOB musicians will perform some of the pieces and lead us in sing-alongs from this book assembled by the UU Musicians Network. We have already begun to enjoy some of the easy songs to sing and beautiful pieces, all upholding UU principles and sources of tradition.. Childcare will be available.

Cheryl Fare is a singer/songwriter, actress and experienced stage manager, an inspirational speaker and educator. Cheryl's work in professional theatre came to an unexpected halt in 1999, when her then 6-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor. While learning the ropes of managing a life-threatening illness (treatment has been successful), music became a salve for the weary soul, and an outlet for the creative healing process. Years later, when her father was slowly succumbing to congestive heart failure, Cheryl developed "Seven Steps to Positive Listening," a guided meditation program that she sees as a road map to overcoming the negative influences we allow to limit our true potential as agents of love. Join Cheryl as she discusses "Seven Steps" and performs some of her music. Cheryl's CDs will available during coffee hour.

Typically the fourth Sunday of the month is "Discussion Sunday." Light brunch potluck items are welcome. All are invited to enter, take some refreshments and find a seat. The goal is to have ample time in the latter part of the morning service for discussion following the presentation.

Please do consider coming a bit early between 10-10:15 am to help set up tables in the Meetinghouse.

During the holidays, we commonly hear stories of the Grinch, Baby Jesus, and Santa Claus. Yet, many of our holiday customs are rooted in ancient Yuletide lore of Oak Kings, Holly Kings, Winter and Spring Goddesses, the forces of Winter battling with or trying to capture the forces of Spring. Join UUCOB children and youth as they present the ancient Scottish tale of the silver-haired Cailleach Bheur who appears each year at Samhain (Halloween), bringing the cold weather of the winter months. Her reign as Winter Queen ends at Beltane (May Day eve) when she is replaced by Brigid, the youthful Goddess of Spring. The celebration of Yule reminds us that life always holds the promise of transformation and a new beginning.

Our children and youth have been participating in a new offering from the Unitarian Universalist Association called “Creating Home.” The intent of these lessons are to provide children with a sense of sacredness, the beauty of hospitality, and the gift of loving relationships that a home can represent. Home might be the dwelling where one lives, our Earth home, one's congregational home, or whatever community circle one is a part of. Rev. Pat will explore this notion of creating a sense of being at home with ourselves and in the world in our own lives as adults.

Healing Circle

Our healing circle begins with a centering meditation, a bowl of water is passed, and a stone dropped in the bowl for each request shared. We then connect with one another and gently send love and healing energy to all
requests, creating a circle of loving energy to heal ourselves and those we care about.

If you'd like to bring a picture or memento of a healing request recipient, please do so, but it is not necessary. No special skills or previous experience is required. Just bring an openness to send and receive love and healing energy!

Childcare will be available during the circle and meeting.
