DAYLIGHT SAVINGS ENDS.

All Soul's Day echoes back to ancient pre-Christian days when at this time of the year, ancestors and the dead would be honored and remembered. Whether or not a loved one in your life passed away this past year or years before, grief is not something to get over. It remains with us in some form or another. If we try to shove it away, it will just come popping back up to meet us again usually at the most inconvenient of times. Rev. Pat will explore how we might honor our grief and our loved ones. Also, on All Soul's Day it has become our custom during the Sunday service to name and remember and loved ones who died this past year, and ancestors and mentors now gone, .

What does is mean to be multiculturally competent? As a faith, as a congregation and as a person in this world we live in. Is it simply being tolerant? Or is there more too it than that?

Speaker: Nancy Proctor. A long-time Unitarian Universalist, Nancy has done graduate work in UU theology, history, and congregational theory at the Starr King Seminary. Her professional and educational background is in human resources, organizational development and communications. Besides her volunteer and consulting work in UU congregations, she is committed to Interfaith Work. She believes that interfaith work is good for the soul and good for the community. We have more in common than we think. And as Francis David said "We don't have to think alike, to love alike".

Share the Plate Recipient for this special Sunday: Unitarian Universalist Association. This offering will support anti-racism and multi-cultural efforts by UU congregations across the country.

Healing Circle

Our healing circle begins with a centering meditation, a bowl of water is passed, and a stone dropped in the bowl for each request shared. We then connect with one another and gently send love and healing energy to all
requests, creating a circle of loving energy to heal ourselves and those we care about.

If you'd like to bring a picture or memento of a healing request recipient, please do so, but it is not necessary. No special skills or previous experience is required. Just bring an openness to send and receive love and healing energy!

Childcare will be available during the circle and meeting.

The Men’s Group provides a mechanism for fellowship, discussion and learning for male members and friends. It meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, 8:00 AM at the Meetinghouse. Members take responsibility for topics or program on a rotating basis which may include (but are not limited to) current events, specialized interests, the environment, the arts, recreation, etc.

Janice will offer a reflection and lead us in our annual “Thanks Giving” Table service. All ages, individuals, households are welcome to bring offerings for the sharing table. You may bring something of meaning or value, whether baked items, jewelry, books, toys, poetry. You may say a word about the treasured object, then leave it to be taken home and appreciated by someone else in the congregation.

"Singing the Journey" Celebration - NEW DATE

Following the morning service, all ages are welcome to enjoy lite fare and refreshments along with a special fund raising event to help purchase additional copies of "Singing the Journey," the hymnal supplement to our current UU hymnal. UUCOB musicians will perform some of the pieces and lead us in sing-alongs from this book assembled by the UU Musicians Network. We have already begun to enjoy some of the easy songs to sing and beautiful pieces, all upholding UU principles and sources of tradition.

Our budget will cover half of the copies needed for Sunday mornings, but help is needed in purchasing the other half (the goal is 30 books total for 60 people sharing hymnals).

Our hope is that at least 15 people will donate $16 a piece to offset the cost of purchasing and shipping the remaining hymnal supplements for the Meetinghouse. If you purchase a copy for the Meetinghouse, a bookplate will be placed in the book in your honor or in the memory of whomever you might wish to name.

Whether or not you are able to attend the event, donations may be made at any time before or at the event to Finance Committee Chair, Laura Gilson. Checks may be made out to UUCOB (please be sure to identify that it is for "hymnal(s)" on the check). Be sure to remember to identify information for bookplates.

Come and enjoy whether or not you are able to donate a hymnal. Childcare will be available.

Please contact Rev. Pat (minister@uucob.org, 261-2801) if you would be able to provide a dozen bagels and spreads, fruit, and/or juice.
