Sailor Tattooing

618 W. 4th Street, Winston Salem
Monday, November 16, 2009, 12 – 8pm

One of the greatest traditions in the art of tattooing is the military design -- especially those of the Navy! This tradition began before the 1700's when Captain Cook discovered the tattooed natives of the South Pacific. Tattooing has been linked with the seafaring lives of the navies of the world for centuries. Cook's sailors were looking for the perfect souvenirs of their journey into foreign lands, and tattooing was the most exotic. This exhibition will show sailor tattooing from around the world.

Price: free
Venue: Tattoo Archive
Phone: 336.722.4422
More info: www.tattooarchive.com

The Madness of Kings: Paintings by Tonya Ingersol

2611 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem
Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 10am – 5pm

Like the Portuguese painter Paula Rego, Ms. Ingersol likes viewers to make up their own stories about her paintings. Ms. Ingersol orchestrates her paintings. Recruiting friends as models, renting costumes and seeking out unusual settings from old buildings to former theatres. She photographs these tableaux viveants, and then builds her bold canvases from the prints. Her latest series of paintings reflect her background in music, and several references are made to operas.
Sailor Tattooing

618 W. 4th Street, Winston Salem
Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 12 – 8pm

Around his best-known character, Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, Updike wove with a lucid eye and enviable craft a tapestry of personal, marital, and societal angst. Rabbit Redux (1971) was Updike's post-mortem of the late 1960s, a strange and disorienting trip for Rabbit. This course will include an early short story about an aesthete experiencing New York City for the first time.
The Madness of Kings: Paintings by Tonya Ingersol

2611 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem
Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 10am – 5pm

Like the Portuguese painter Paula Rego, Ms. Ingersol likes viewers to make up their own stories about her paintings. Ms. Ingersol orchestrates her paintings. Recruiting friends as models, renting costumes and seeking out unusual settings from old buildings to former theatres. She photographs these tableaux viveants, and then builds her bold canvases from the prints. Her latest series of paintings reflect her background in music, and several references are made to operas.

Thursday, November 19, 2009, 10am – 5pm

Like the Portuguese painter Paula Rego, Ms. Ingersol likes viewers to make up their own stories about her paintings. Ms. Ingersol orchestrates her paintings. Recruiting friends as models, renting costumes and seeking out unusual settings from old buildings to former theatres. She photographs these tableaux viveants, and then builds her bold canvases from the prints. Her latest series of paintings reflect her background in music, and several references are made to operas.
Sailor Tattooing

618 W. 4th Street, Winston Salem
Thursday, November 19, 2009, 12 – 8pm
