Around his best-known character, Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, Updike wove with a lucid eye and enviable craft a tapestry of personal, marital, and societal angst. Rabbit Redux (1971) was Updike's post-mortem of the late 1960s, a strange and disorienting trip for Rabbit. This course will include an early short story about an aesthete experiencing New York City for the first time. Taught by Tom Phillips, director of the Wake Forest Scholars Program.
