Little Shop of Horrors is a rock musical by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman, about a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 black comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman.

The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several show-stoppers including "Skid Row (Downtown)", "Somewhere That's Green", and "Suddenly, Seymour", as well as the title song.

Beaujolais Wine Tasting

The fall harvest is complete, and the annual tradition of sampling the ripe Beaujolais Nouveau wine is celebrated around the world. The Alliance Francaise Chapitre de Grasse invites the Hampton Roads community to celebrate and sample with a wine tasting on November 20 at Bonnie Arnold’s, 517 W. 21st Street in Norfolk from 7 to 9 pm. The event is open to the public.

Beaujolais Nouveau is typically released the third week of November and has become a popular wine to serve at Thanksgiving. Two varieties, Manoir du Carra and Domaine Descroix, will be sampled along with a French buffet including baguette (French bread), saucisson (sausages), cornichons (pickles), cheeses and other treats. Tickets are $18 for Alliance Francaise members and $23 for non-members. It includes the buffet, two glasses of wine, door prizes and an art exhibition. The event will feature homes on Mowbray Arch in Ghent decorated for the holidays from 1pm – 4pm then a holiday fashion/hair show with DJ and dancing at the New Belmont in Ghent from 4pm – 6pm located at 2117 Colonial Ave. There will be dance performances from the Mambo Room as well as mini dance lessons.

Wreathing of the Lions at Mariners' Museum

The Mariners’ Museum, America’s National Maritime Museum, will host the 4th Annual Wreathing of the Lions on November 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. The free event takes place on the Lion’s Bridge in the Mariners’ Museum Park, and everyone is invited to participate. .

In addition to the wreathing of the four life-sized lions that flank the bridge, there are fun activities and festive music planned for the afternoon. Games include a lion roaring contest, pin the tail on the lion, lion costume and face painting. Families can get their portraits taken in front of the Wreathed Lions for $5. Delicious cookies from Carol’s Cookies, hot chocolate, cider and other refreshments will be available for purchase.
