graphite sculptures turn everyday objects such as an unfurled yoga mat

DESCRIPTION:The Frontiers of Flight Museum will open the art exhibition
Vectors: Abstractions in Aviation Art by Don Parr on Friday\, May 4. The
exhibition that features abstract paintings and constructions with avia
tion themes will be on display through August 17. Hours are Mondays-Sat
urdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m. The Frontiers of Flight Muse
um is located at 6911 Lemmon Avenue\, Dallas\, Texas 75209. For inform
ation\, call 214-350-3600 or visit The Flight Museum website. \n\nAbout
the Artist\n\nDon Parr is a Dallas financial advisor and artist. While
living in New York City in the 1970s\, he was inspired by the contempor
ary artists in the abstract impressionist\, minimalist and color field g
enres and created his first paintings. After a 35-year hiatus he return
ed to his art\, using color field and abstract impressionist techniques
with aviation themes. Many of his current works employ aluminum panels a
nd constructions with aircraft designs and are the focus of his 2012 sho
w\, Vectors\, at The Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. \n \nParr’s w
orks portray the functional aesthetics of aircraft design —an elegant ba
lance of strength\, weight\, and aerodynamic efficiency. His art capture
s the essence of this balance with artistic abstraction that facilitates
appreciation of the underlying uncontrived\, pure aesthetics. He focuse
s on early airplanes with fabric covered wood frames as well as those wi
th all-metal construction with riveted aluminum panels. Parr constantly
seeks new methods to celebrate this extraordinary expression of function
rarely found in man-made products. \n\nThe Frontiers of Flight Museum i
s located on the southeast corner of Dallas Love Field Airport at 6911 L
emmon Avenue (at University). Over 25 aircraft and space vehicles are o
n display\, including the Command Module from the Apollo 7 space mission
\, a complete Southwest Airlines Boeing 737\, and the one-of-a-kind Voug
ht V-173 “Flying Pancake.” Comprehensive and engaging exhibits include
thousands of rare aviation artifacts\, photographs and memorabilia. Hou
 rs of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, Monday through Saturday\, and 1
to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Regular admission rates are $8 for adults\; $6 for
  seniors (65+)\; $5 for children/youth ages 3 through 17\; and free for
children under age 3. For more information\, call (214) 350-1651 or vis
