Attention all budding storytellers! The Cape Breton Regional Library will be hosting a half-day Storyteller Workshop in at the North Sydney Library. The workshop, facilitated by the Library’s Storyteller-in-Residence, Ken Chisholm, will help people become comfortable with their creative self, and help them to develop effective ways to use structure, story and character to tell their story.

There is no fee for the workshop, but those interested should register early to get a seat as there is a maximum of ten people. This is an adult programs for those 18 years of age and older. To register, phone the North Sydney Library at 794-3272. Other libraries that will host workshops are Baddeck, Ingonish, Louisbourg, North Sydney, and Sydney. This program is made possible with the support of the Province of Nova Scotia through the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.

"There is so much of our cultural heritage that is told around the family dinner table, or when old friends are reminiscing, and if nobody else has a chance to hear it, it could be lost forever," says Chisholm. "I am developing a flexible program for the workshops to accommodate the beginner storyteller as well as anyone with more advanced skills. Along with effective ways to use character, structure, and use of detail, we hope to give participants the confidence to feel comfortable bringing their stories to a wider audience."
