DESCRIPTION:Katy Connor’s work demonstrates a fascination with the movin
 g image and its capacity to visualise patterns of thought and physical s
 ensation.  Her latest work Pure Flow\, commissioned through the Exeter P
 hoenix Digital Media Bursary\, will generate live\, moving imagery creat
 ed from the data flows between a Global Positioning System [GPS] device 
 and the three satellites which triangulate its position at any one time.
  Connor reveals a new way of visualising ordinarily invisible streams of
  data and acknowledges the common usage in surveying and navigational to
 ols of sophisticated technologies\, initially developed for military pur
 poses.  The exhibition will also include a further selection of Connor’s
  screen-based works\, sculptures and drawings which also reflect upon th
 e profound and ubiquitous presence of technology in our daily lives.

DESCRIPTION:This winter Spacex will present a solo exhibition by London 
 based British filmmaker Emily Wardill\, one of the UK’s most exciting yo
 ung artists\, described by the Guardian as unafraid to ‘put her viewers 
 between a rock and a hard place’. \n\nWith her new work\, Game Keepers W
 ithout Game\, Wardill presents a powerful and contemporary feature lengt
 h movie that tackles difficult social issues without compromise. \n\nThe
  formal structure of the film is based on Pedro Calderón de la Barca’s L
 ife is a Dream (La Vida es Suena) that was written in the 17th Century. 
 The script for Wardill’s new work translates the story into contemporary
  London\; depicting a child banished from the family home at an early ag
 e.  \n\nThe work\, which is set to a complex drumming sound track\, comp
 rises of still shots of objects that become characters\; and a mixture o
 f acted scenes where nothing and nobody touches. \n\nFollowing its premi
 ere at Spacex this new work will be screened at The Showroom\, London. I
 t will also be included in a major solo show at de appel\, Amsterdam and
  at MOCA in Miami in December 2009.\n\nLondon based artist Emily Wardill
  will be coming to Spacex on Saturday 30 January at 2.30pm\, to speak ab
 out Game Keepers Without Game. Admission is free but booking is essentia
 l\, as this is a very popular event.
