Beyond Stage 4, Inc. invites you to join forces with us at of our annual Bikers for Boobies Event to benefit young women with late stage breast cancer. Beyond Stage 4, Inc. is an all-volunteer run non-profit organization that exists to educate, strengthen, and ultimately cure advanced stage breast cancer through direct action and in collaboration with other impactful likeminded charities. This specific event’s proceeds will be disbursed to three extremely influential and impactful charities that believe in educating, supporting, and funding cancer research for metastatic breast cancer in young women.

This exciting event will be held on June 8th 2013 through June 16th 2013 at Laconia, New Hampshire’s 90th annual Motorcycle Rally. Laconia’s annual Bike Week event is the nations oldest, longest-running, motorcycle rally. Our plan is to set up one of the first ever, metastatic breast cancer raffle, educational, and retail booths right in the heart of the Weirs. We will be selling raffle tickets for daily raffles and auctions for items donated by dedicated merchants. Accompanying the raffle we will also be selling T-shirts and other merchandise donated from our sister charities to raise funds for our cause.

Fathers' Day Fun and Evening Mysteries at Lost River Gorge

A special tradition continues this Fathers’ Day Weekend at Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves. On Sunday, June 16th, admission to the attraction is free for every Dad who is accompanied by a child with a paid admission.

Lost River is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm in June and from 9:00am – 6:00pm in July and August with the last ticket sold an hour before closing.
Memories can also be made on Lost River’s popular weekend Lantern Tours, which begin Saturday, June 8th. Visitors investigate the twists and turns of the caves at night by flickering lanterns, and are provided headlamps to light the way along the extensive system of boardwalks. At the conclusion of the nocturnal adventure, a campfire and s’mores await the spelunkers. The guided tour lasts about 1.5 hours and is recommended for ages 5 and up.

The Lantern Tours take place every Saturday night at 7:45pm in June and at 8:15pm in July and August. During the July 4th holiday weekend, the tours will be available on Friday, July 5th and Saturday, July 6th. Special extended tour dates will also be offered on Labor Day Weekend; Friday, August 30th, Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st at 8:15pm. Lantern Tours are by advance booking only; please call 603-745-8031 to make your reservation.

From traditional nineteenth century ship portraits to modern and contemporary nautical representations, this comprehensive marine show highlights the natural rugged beauty of the New England coast that has long inspired artists and still continues to do so today.

This exhibition is on view at New Hampshire Antique Co-op in the Upstairs Gallery and Tower Gallery through September 30, 2013. New works will continue to be added to the show during its duration and lectures in conjunction with the exhibit will be announced.

They debuted in March 2012, performing in the Astoria Symphonic Choir's spring concert. PJ&J has played throughout NYC in various bars and clubs, always surprising audiences with their eclectic style and instrumentation. A genre-defying duo, they blend a Cole Porter lyric sensibility with Simon & Garfunkel style duo vocal harmonies. On May 26, 1944, a B-25 Mitchell bomber with a seven-man crew was shot down over Nazi-occupied Italy. At the time, Italy was a battleground in a complex, controversial, drawn-out, and bloody war of attrition. When disaster struck, the fate of each crew member rested, first, on the ability of the pilot to control the ship so that they could bail out; and, second, on who reached them first when they hit the ground—Mussolini's Fascists, Hitler's Nazis, or the partisans that formed the Italian Resistance. John Lanza, a nephew of one of the crew members on that fated flight, will be at the Museum to discuss this fascinating true story and his book Shot Down Over Italy. Mr. Lanza will be on hand for a book signing after the presentation.

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center Art Gallery opens an exciting new art exhibit on Saturday May 18, 2013. The exhibit entitled “Impressions of the North Country” by visiting Russian Artist Boris Oskin is the product of a two-month visit by Russian artist, architect and diplomatic attaché, Boris Oskin and his wife Elena back in1992. Boris’ watercolors, sketches and personal letters and correspondences will be on display in the gallery from Saturday May 18- Saturday June 22, 2013. The collection left behind by Boris upon his return to Russia is now part of the personal collection of local Watervillian, Chris Larsen, who has generously offered to share its contents as well as his personal stories and experiences with the Oskins. An opening reception will be held on Saturday May 25 from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. giving visitors the opportunity to see our landscape through the eyes of a Russian artist and hear the stories of his unique relationship with our own late Donald Jasinski, who was responsible for bringing Boris to the United States. Come hear stories of Boris’ antics as well as how the trip was only possible after he left the employ of the Communist Party. Rey Center Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Boris Oskin was born in Moscow in 1935, but evacuated with his family from the city during the German invasion. At the age of fifteen he started work as a metal smith at the famous “Pravda” newspaper plant in Moscow. In 1952 he graduated from school with a gold medal for his artistic abilities. While his school directors urged him to pursue a career in painting, his practical grandmother persuaded him to become an architect. As an architect, Boris designed and supervised the construction of many important buildings around the world including the Soviet Consulate in Geteburg, Sweden and the Soviet Embassy in Guyana. Boris’ free time was spent painting and sketching, completing a series of oils for the Gusevasholm Castle in Kunkbacks, Sweden. Boris enjoyed working in oils, watercolors and sketches in graphite, drawing his inspiration from the local scene, wherever in the world his work and art took him.
Boris Oskin and Donald Jasinski met in 1974 at an architectural convention. After exchanging the traditional niceties of invitations to each other’s homes, Donald and Boris went their separate ways. They kept in touch through letters for a short period of time and Donald would send Boris and his wife cosmetics and toiletries that they were not able to get in their country. At some point, Boris went to work for the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the USSR and was no longer allowed to have contact with his friend Donald, sadly telling him so in a letter. Seventeen years later, in 1991, Boris reconnected with Donald after leaving the Foreign Affairs Ministry and asked for a formal invitation from Donald to visit the United States. The rest is history painted in the watercolors on display in “Impressions of the North Country”.
Margret and H.A. Rey, authors of the Curious George children’s books series and former summer residents of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, were artists and adventurers, historians and naturalists, gardeners and environmental stewards. Today their spirit lives on in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the Reys’ legacy through art, science, and adventure programs for all ages.

World Refugee Day in Manchester

The International Institute in New Hampshire (IINH) and its community partners are pleased to announce a celebration of UN World Refugee Day in Manchester. This growing cultural event will take place Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the William B. Cashin Senior Activity Center from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and is expected to draw 300 attendees from the greater Manchester area.
World Refugee Day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. The Queen City will unite with communities around the world to commemorate World Refugee Day with international food, music, dance and cultural performances.
The event will feature a photographic slideshow by Beck Fields of Field Work Photos, speeches by refugees from the Manchester community, a cultural attire show, a traditional Bhutanese dance, and Swahili singing. Refugee community members will provide international food to accompany the event.
“We’re excited to bring together and celebrate all the cultures that make Manchester so diverse. The refugee community looks forward to sharing their traditions with the entire Manchester community,” said Nasir Arush, Site Director of the International Institute of New Hampshire.
World Refugee Day in Manchester is made possible by partnerships with organizations including Sisters of the Holy Cross, Iraqi Social Services, Bhutanese Community of New Hampshire, Organization for Refugee and Immigrant Success, Field Work Photos, Arab American Forum, English for New Americans, NH Catholic Charities, NH Alliance for Immigrants and Refugees and Women for Women.
World Refugee Day is also sponsored by the Shirley Brulotte Fund, which was founded in her memory and plays an essential role in improving the lives of new Americans in New Hampshire.

The Cave Explorers exhibit features a darkened environment for kids to explore and discover the mysteries hidden within. Kids can build a spider web with fiber-optic glow rods, conduct experiments with different kinds of light, and look for hidden creatures that only appear with the right light source. This exhibit was created by the museum's exhibits and education team and is suited for all ages.

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center Art Gallery opens an exciting new art exhibit on Saturday May 18, 2013. The exhibit entitled “Impressions of the North Country” by visiting Russian Artist Boris Oskin is the product of a two-month visit by Russian artist, architect and diplomatic attaché, Boris Oskin and his wife Elena back in1992. Boris’ watercolors, sketches and personal letters and correspondences will be on display in the gallery from Saturday May 18- Saturday June 22, 2013. The collection left behind by Boris upon his return to Russia is now part of the personal collection of local Watervillian, Chris Larsen, who has generously offered to share its contents as well as his personal stories and experiences with the Oskins. An opening reception will be held on Saturday May 25 from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. giving visitors the opportunity to see our landscape through the eyes of a Russian artist and hear the stories of his unique relationship with our own late Donald Jasinski, who was responsible for bringing Boris to the United States. Come hear stories of Boris’ antics as well as how the trip was only possible after he left the employ of the Communist Party. Rey Center Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Boris Oskin was born in Moscow in 1935, but evacuated with his family from the city during the German invasion. At the age of fifteen he started work as a metal smith at the famous “Pravda” newspaper plant in Moscow. In 1952 he graduated from school with a gold medal for his artistic abilities. While his school directors urged him to pursue a career in painting, his practical grandmother persuaded him to become an architect. As an architect, Boris designed and supervised the construction of many important buildings around the world including the Soviet Consulate in Geteburg, Sweden and the Soviet Embassy in Guyana. Boris’ free time was spent painting and sketching, completing a series of oils for the Gusevasholm Castle in Kunkbacks, Sweden. Boris enjoyed working in oils, watercolors and sketches in graphite, drawing his inspiration from the local scene, wherever in the world his work and art took him.
Boris Oskin and Donald Jasinski met in 1974 at an architectural convention. After exchanging the traditional niceties of invitations to each other’s homes, Donald and Boris went their separate ways. They kept in touch through letters for a short period of time and Donald would send Boris and his wife cosmetics and toiletries that they were not able to get in their country. At some point, Boris went to work for the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the USSR and was no longer allowed to have contact with his friend Donald, sadly telling him so in a letter. Seventeen years later, in 1991, Boris reconnected with Donald after leaving the Foreign Affairs Ministry and asked for a formal invitation from Donald to visit the United States. The rest is history painted in the watercolors on display in “Impressions of the North Country”.
Margret and H.A. Rey, authors of the Curious George children’s books series and former summer residents of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, were artists and adventurers, historians and naturalists, gardeners and environmental stewards. Today their spirit lives on in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the Reys’ legacy through art, science, and adventure programs for all ages.

Public Demo of Emergency Communications June 22-23

Despite the Internet, cell phones, email and modern communications, every year whole regions find themselves in the dark. Tornadoes, fires, storms, ice and even the occasional cutting of fiber optic cables leave people without the means to communicate. In these cases, the one consistent service that has never failed has been Amateur Radio. These radio operators, often called “hams” provide backup communications for everything from the American Red Cross to FEMA and even for the International Space Station. Your Town’s “hams” will join with thousands of other Amateur Radio operators showing their emergency capabilities this weekend.

Over the past year, the news has been full of reports of ham radio operators providing critical communications during unexpected emergencies in towns across America including the California wildfires, winter storms, tornadoes and other events world-wide. When trouble is brewing, Amateur
Radio’s people are often the first to provide rescuers with critical information and communications.

On the weekend of June 22-23, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with Strafford County ham radio operators and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about as hams across the USA
will be holding public demonstrations of emergency communications abilities.

This annual event, called "Field Day" is the climax of the week long "Amateur Radio Week" sponsored by the ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio. Using only emergency power supplies, ham operators will construct emergency stations in parks, shopping malls, schools and backyards around the country. Their slogan, "When All Else Fails, Ham Radio Works” is more than just words to the hams as they prove they can send messages in many forms without the use of phone systems, internet or any other infrastructure that can be compromised in a crisis. More than 35,000 amateur radio operators across the
country participated in last year's event.

They invite the public to come and see ham radio’s new capabilities and learn how to get their own FCC radio license before the next disaster strikes. Amateur Radio is growing in the US. There are now over 700,000 Amateur Radio licensees in the US, and more than 2.5 million around the world. Through the ARRL’s Amateur Radio Emergency Services program, ham volunteers provide both emergency communications for thousands of state and local emergency response agencies and non-emergency community services too, all for free.

Children’s Mental Health network (CMHN) will host its Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Candia Woods Golf Links in Candia.

The event, which last year raised $10,000 to provide financial assistance to families with children with mental illness and/or serious emotional disorders, begins at 6:45 a.m. with sign in, raffle choices, and a continental breakfast followed by a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.

Tickets are $130 per player and include greens fees with cart, practice range, breakfast, a buffet luncheon, raffle, and various prizes. According to CMHN Founder Bev Barney, net proceeds from the event will be used to offset expenses families’ insurance will not cover.

“It’s a quality of life perspective, which is why we provide gas card assistance and fund camp scholarships and in-home support services,” said Barney. “These are the things many families need and really cannot afford.”

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center Art Gallery opens an exciting new art exhibit on Saturday May 18, 2013. The exhibit entitled “Impressions of the North Country” by visiting Russian Artist Boris Oskin is the product of a two-month visit by Russian artist, architect and diplomatic attaché, Boris Oskin and his wife Elena back in1992. Boris’ watercolors, sketches and personal letters and correspondences will be on display in the gallery from Saturday May 18- Saturday June 22, 2013. The collection left behind by Boris upon his return to Russia is now part of the personal collection of local Watervillian, Chris Larsen, who has generously offered to share its contents as well as his personal stories and experiences with the Oskins. An opening reception will be held on Saturday May 25 from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. giving visitors the opportunity to see our landscape through the eyes of a Russian artist and hear the stories of his unique relationship with our own late Donald Jasinski, who was responsible for bringing Boris to the United States. Come hear stories of Boris’ antics as well as how the trip was only possible after he left the employ of the Communist Party. Rey Center Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Boris Oskin was born in Moscow in 1935, but evacuated with his family from the city during the German invasion. At the age of fifteen he started work as a metal smith at the famous “Pravda” newspaper plant in Moscow. In 1952 he graduated from school with a gold medal for his artistic abilities. While his school directors urged him to pursue a career in painting, his practical grandmother persuaded him to become an architect. As an architect, Boris designed and supervised the construction of many important buildings around the world including the Soviet Consulate in Geteburg, Sweden and the Soviet Embassy in Guyana. Boris’ free time was spent painting and sketching, completing a series of oils for the Gusevasholm Castle in Kunkbacks, Sweden. Boris enjoyed working in oils, watercolors and sketches in graphite, drawing his inspiration from the local scene, wherever in the world his work and art took him.
Boris Oskin and Donald Jasinski met in 1974 at an architectural convention. After exchanging the traditional niceties of invitations to each other’s homes, Donald and Boris went their separate ways. They kept in touch through letters for a short period of time and Donald would send Boris and his wife cosmetics and toiletries that they were not able to get in their country. At some point, Boris went to work for the Foreign Affairs Ministry of the USSR and was no longer allowed to have contact with his friend Donald, sadly telling him so in a letter. Seventeen years later, in 1991, Boris reconnected with Donald after leaving the Foreign Affairs Ministry and asked for a formal invitation from Donald to visit the United States. The rest is history painted in the watercolors on display in “Impressions of the North Country”.
Margret and H.A. Rey, authors of the Curious George children’s books series and former summer residents of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, were artists and adventurers, historians and naturalists, gardeners and environmental stewards. Today their spirit lives on in the Margret and H.A. Rey Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the Reys’ legacy through art, science, and adventure programs for all ages.

Relay For Life of Rochester

Relay For Life of Rochester is a large, community based event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.

Funds from this overnight event will be used to fund cancer research, prevention and help with patient services.

Come out to support the cause, have some delicious food, play games, enter raffles and even enjoy a free mini-concert by the Jandee Lee Porter from 6-8:45pm!
