Transcending Vision: American Impressionism 1870-1940
Transcending Vision: American Impressionism 1870–1940 explores both the dissemination of Impressionism from its French roots into the American idiom and its reinterpretation of American landscape painting. The more than 120 important masterpieces in the exhibition, by a diverse group of more than 75 artists such as Childe Hassam, Arthur Wesley Dow, Robert Spencer and others, trace not only the development of Impressionism in the United States but also the development of a truly American style of painting. Members of the first generation of American painters to absorb the technique, brighter palette and subject matter of Impressionism from their French counterparts. These artists, considered rebellious in their time, painted atmospheric landscapes, park and beach scenes, urban views and charming interiors, with particular interest in optical effects, light and the different seasons.

"Bastille Day" returns to Huff Harrington Fine Art
“Bastille Day” at Huff Harrington Fine Art was a runaway success in its first installment last year, and returns victoriously this July to celebrate the gallery’s troupe of talented French artists, including up-and-coming abstractionist Pascal Bouterin. Many of the featured artists, such as Georges Nasri, Andree Thobaty, Lylian Coiffard and Christian Nepo, were selected personally by gallery co-owner Ann Huff during her stays in Provence. With a mix of abstract, representational and Impressionist paintings in oil, watercolor and mixed media, the exhibition brings the spirit of France’s Fête Nationale to Atlanta for the final two weeks of the month.

TEW Galleries presents mixed-media exhibit "Drawings"
TEW Galleries presents “Drawings,” featuring the work of mixed-media artists Isabelle Melchior, Kimo Minton, Louis Schneiderman and Carolyn Schlam. Melchior’s still life, landscape and figure studies—primarily in graphite and pastels—are in stark contrast to Minton’s pieces, most of which double as working studies for sculptural projects. Schneiderman’s drawings examine the feminine mystique while Schlam’s exude bold modernity in combinations of ink, paint washes and conté crayons.
