Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance

National Holidays In memory of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, each year in the United States we observe Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on December 18, 2001 (as Public Law 107-89). On this day, it is asked by the President, that the American flag be flown at half-staff at individual American homes, at the White House and on all United States government buildings and establishments at home and abroad. The President has also asked Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M.(Eastern Daylight Time), the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He also strongly encourages Americans to use the Corporation for National and Community Serv… Sunday, September 11, 2016. For more info visit nationaldaycalendar.com.

POW/MIA Recognition Day

National Holidays The day we honor the our former prisoners of wars and the memories of the tens of thousands of service members from all wars still listed as missing in action. So, for our POWs and MIAs - for the ultimate sacrifice so many of them made in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam in the name of freedom - take a few minutes Friday to remember them. Sepulveda Basin Off Leash Dog Park Community Meeting

A new Park Advisory Board has been formed for the Sepulveda Basin Dog Park. The Advisory Board was formed so that people who use the Dog Park can meet with Recreation and Parks Officials and help shape the park's future uses, maintenance, and voice needs or concerns of the community. The Park Advisory Board met for the first time Jan. 18 and will meet every third Tuesday of the month at Balboa Recreation Center. The Sepulveda Dog Park is a very important resource for our community, offering dog owners a chance to let their canine friends get exercise in a big open space and have important social play with other dogs. We helped the users of the park form the Park Advisory Board as part of our support for the park and its users and to help ensure it remains clean, safe and well maintained. Congress of Neighborhoods: "Neighborhoods First: Your Voice, Our City"

The Congress of Neighborhoods: the annual event where all 96 Neighborhood Councils come together at City Hall. This year's theme - "Neighborhoods First: Your Voice, Our City" - examines how local focus can create Citywide impact. The theme was chosen partly because about half of Los Angeles' Neighborhood Council board members were elected to a Neighborhood Council for the first time so they need to learn how to navigate the civic ecosystem. However, the theme remains very relevant to experienced board members, too, as many workshops will explore local solutions to citywide or even global issues, such as homelessness and public safety. The Congress is the year's biggest opportunity for Neighborhood Council leaders to get training on skills and subjects key to Neighborhood Council success; network with elected officials and staff from every City department; build relationships with members of other boards; and join regional and Citywide alliances of Neighborhood Councils. Some of the confirmed elected off… Saturday, September 24, 2016, 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM. Los Angeles City Hall 200 N Spring St Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Veterans Day

National Holidays Veterans Day is an official United States holiday honoring all those who have served in armed service. Thank You For Your Service! Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect). The United States also originally observed Armistice Day; it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.
