The Great Must Fall as Well as the Small: The Battle of Chancellorsville Exhibition on Display at the Pearce Museum
Arts Events Calendar
In early May of 1863, two events occurred that would change the course of American history. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought in the tangled woods surrounding an otherwise unremarkable family home, and in a tragic case of mistaken identity, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson was fired upon by his own troops and grievously wounded.
The Battle of Chancellorsville saw the second bloodiest day of the Civil War, the downfall of yet another Union general, and the end to Lincoln’s hopes for a swift end of the war. Visit the Pearce Museum on the campus of Navarro College in Corsicana to see The Great Must Fall as Well as the Small, a temporary exhibition about the Battle of Chancellorsville, to discover even more about this monumental event.
Thanks to the audacious decisions of General Robert E. Lee, the Confederacy won the battle for Chancellorsville. Facing a force twice the size of his own, Lee divided his army not once but twice, confounding a two-prong maneuver by Union general Joseph Hooker. Many historians a…

A tale of the battle between good and evil, Jekyll & Hyde is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. Rally Against Domestic Violence | Standing Up for Families
Domestic abuse and violent acts are tragic, evil, and senseless, damaging and destroying the lives of individuals in our communities and across our nation. Churches have addressed and spoken out against this in years past. The Antioch Church was among that group. And by God’s grace, we plan to do it again this year, on Saturday, June 1st from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Numerous agencies will be on hand that day to serve those who are (or those who know of others) involved in domestic abuse and violence situations. We will have activities and presentations for children, youth, and adults.

A Taste Of Freedom
Help Us Celebrate A Taste of Freedom!
150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation
In Texas, June 19th commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in 1865. In honor of this historic event, all descendants of Freedmen should unite to honor, thank, and celebrate their ancestors who played an important role in our freedom.
Because of its pivotal role in slavery’s destruction and in the history of our nation, Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation is revered today as one of the great documents of human freedom. Although its effects were gradual, the Emancipation Proclamation fundamentally transformed the Civil War from a war to save the Union into a war for freedom. It placed the issue of slavery squarely atop the wartime agenda, adding moral force to the Union cause and strengthening the Union militarily and politically. After January 1, 1863, every Union victory meant freedom for more people.
