Nam June Paik: Global Visionary

The artwork and ideas of the Korean-born artist Nam June Paik were a major influence on late twentieth-century art and continue to inspire a new generation of artists. Nam June Paik: Global Visionary offers an unprecedented view into the artist’s creative method by featuring key artworks that convey Paik’s extraordinary accomplishments as a major international artist as well as material drawn from the Nam June Paik Archive, which was acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum from the artist’s estate in 2009.

Behind-the-Scenes Introduction to the Lunder Conservation Center

The Lunder Conservation Center is a special facility of several laboratories shared by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery where visitors can watch behind glass walls conservators examining, treating, and preserving artwork.
Today, in this behind-the-scenes introduction to the Lunder Conservation Center, learn how museum conservators use science, art history, and skilled hands to preserve objects in both museums' collections.

Andy Paiko, who founded the Central Coast Glass Artists’ Studio, explains how he creates with glass, and continues to explore new methods of coloration, patterning, and form, in everything from vessels and assembled sculpture to installation and custom design. The Lunder Conservation Center is a special facility of several laboratories shared by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery where visitors can watch behind glass walls conservators examining, treating, and preserving artwork.

Behind-the-Scenes Introduction to the Lunder Conservation Center

The Lunder Conservation Center is a special facility of several laboratories shared by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery where visitors can watch behind glass walls conservators examining, treating, and preserving artwork.
Today, in this behind-the-scenes introduction to the Lunder Conservation Center, learn how museum conservators use science, art history, and skilled hands to preserve objects in both museums' collections.

The Tim Whalen Quintet explores the music of Bud Powell, one of the most influential modern jazz pianists and composers. Conserving and Exhibiting the Works of Nam June Paik
One-Time Events
restoration of works by Nam June Paik. Focusing on the exhibition Nam June Paik: Global Visionary, a variety of speakers from Paik collections across the country, including John G. Hanhardt, senior curator for media arts, and Michael Mansfield, associate curator of film and media arts, will discuss their experiences with Paik’s works in a series of lectures and panel discussions.
