Emerging America calendar
Summer Colloquia examine historical content and teaching strategies for Western Massachusetts teachers. All programs are held at Smith College in Northampton. A one-day kick-off explores the summer’s theme and presents multi-level strategies for effective use of primary sources. Four topical three-day colloquia address facets of the theme. Mornings feature engaging lectures and work on primary sources by expert scholars. Veteran teachers lead afternoon breakouts by grade level. Participants must complete two (or more) colloquia and written assignments to earn stipends and PDPs (or graduate credits from Fitchburg State University).

Our dates are the last week of July and the first two weeks of August; July 22-August 19.
Our goal is to provide high quality, cost-effective professional development, accessible to Franklin and Hampshire County educators.
As in the past, Franklin and Hampshire County educators and community members are invited to serve as facilitators and presenters. Our county is rich in professional expertise. Summer Academy is a terrific opportunity to share what works, learn together, and form professional learning communities that will extend into school year success.

Emerging America calendar
Summer Colloquia examine historical content and teaching strategies for Western Massachusetts teachers. All programs are held at Smith College in Northampton. A one-day kick-off explores the summer’s theme and presents multi-level strategies for effective use of primary sources. Four topical three-day colloquia address facets of the theme. Mornings feature engaging lectures and work on primary sources by expert scholars. Veteran teachers lead afternoon breakouts by grade level. Participants must complete two (or more) colloquia and written assignments to earn stipends and PDPs (or graduate credits from Fitchburg State University).

The Franklin-Hampshire County Professional Development Team is in the process of planning for the 2013 Franklin – Hampshire County Summer Academy.
Our dates are the last week of July and the first two weeks of August; July 22-August 19.
Our goal is to provide high quality, cost-effective professional development, accessible to Franklin and Hampshire County educators.
As in the past, Franklin and Hampshire County educators and community members are invited to serve as facilitators and presenters. Our county is rich in professional expertise. Summer Academy is a terrific opportunity to share what works, learn together, and form professional learning communities that will extend into school year success.
Topics typically include skills and information of strong interest to teachers, administrators, and specialists working in a standards-based environment.
