Gates of Silence

Composer and singer Susan Botti performs her original chamber work “Gates of Silence” with Vanderbilt University’s Blakemore Trio. “Gates of Silence” connects three independent pieces, inspired by Virgil's “Aeneid.” Each is a passage that echoes with relevance today—in our fallen cities, in our physical passages, and in our personal interactions with each other and with our destinies. There is a reiterated rhythm of loss, but also one of renewal, hope and continuation. The final passage sets poetry by National Book Award finalist, Linda Gregerson. She was awarded the Pushcart Prize for her poem “Dido Refuses to Speak,” commissioned by Botti for “Gates of Silence.” Susan Botti is a Coca-Cola Artist in Residence at Emory University. This event is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Artists in Residence program, MetLife Creative Connections program, the Emory College Hightower Fund, the Center for Creativity & Arts, the Michael C. Carlos Museum, and the departments of English, Music, Theater and Dance. Emory Event Topic: Arts. Type of Art: Arts - Interdisciplinary Events & Exhibitions. Event Open To: All. Cost: Free.
