Kids Discovery Hike

Events Experience the life of a soldier as you join in a 2 ½ mile hike from the Visitor Center to the replica soldier huts and then back again. While at the huts you’ll try your hand at musket drill and marching. When you return to the Wick House you can take on the challenge of some 18th century games that the soldiers played in camp. Sandy Relief Mission Trip to Union Beach, NJ

Community/ Nonprofit Members of The Presbyterian Church in Morristown have been leading Saturday work trips to Union Beach, New Jersey since January 2013. Union Beach was hard hit by Sandy. Since residents live there full-time, we are assisting in the rehabilitation of primary homes. The Sandy Relief Task Force is working to coordinate Saturday and week-day trips on a regular basis and has set up a volunteer sign-up webpage on our website (www.pcmorristown.org). An email will be sent each week, about two days prior, to those who have volunteered for that upcoming Saturday or weekday. Emails will include details about the specific project and logistics. Trips are planned for May 7, May 18, June 1, June 13 and June 29, 2013. Please sign up in advance on our website. Boonton First Fridays - Dogs On Parade

Industrial Heritage Tour: Mt. Hope Mine & Mineral Railroad

Events The Mt. Hope Tract contains some of the richest veins of iron ore and most productive mines in New Jersey. In 1866 a railroad was chartered to bring ore from these mines to the Morris Canal and later to a connection with the Morris & Essex Railroad at Wharton. Events On Sunday June 16th Macculloch Hall Historical Museum welcomes author and historian William B. Styple for a Father’s Day presentation about artist James E. Kelly. Shortly after the Civil War Irish-American sculptor James Edward Kelly (1855-1933) made bronze portraits of over 40 Union Army generals. While the heroes of the war sat for Kelly, the artist interviewed them with intimate questions about the high points of their military careers, and the minute details of their notable battles. During Kelly’s series of interviews he spent time with those who personally knew Abraham Lincoln. Kelly recorded over 60 eyewitness accounts, a never-before-published oral history of the 16th President, which Kelly carefully preserved in his notebooks; detailing Lincoln's physical appearance, personality, and qualities as a statesman during a dark time of national crisis.
