George Washington Carver exhibit

Many people know George Washington Carver as the man who invented many uses for the humble peanut. But a new exhibit making its first East Coast appearance at The Academy of Natural Sciences this fall digs deeper into this inspiring African American scientist whose foresight revolutionized agriculture in the South and who was “green” before his time. Born into slavery in 1864, Carver became a trailblazing scientist, educator and humanitarian who devoted his life to bringing practical knowledge to those in need. His chemistry creations resulted in hundreds of new uses for sweet potatoes, soy beans and peanuts. He introduced poor sharecroppers to sustainable agriculture and laid the groundwork for today’s research on plant-based fuels, medicines and everyday products. The story of Carver's remarkable life and work is the subject of “George Washington Carver,” at the Academy from Nov. 21, 2009 to Feb. 28, 2010. Beef & Beer to benefit Northeast Animal Rescue

Northeast Animal Rescue is a a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Northeast Philadelphia. We are dedicated to saving homeless, unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs. We depend solely on donations. NAR focuses on having feral (wild) cats spayed and/or neutered to decrease overpopulation. In the process of helping feral cats, we come across many who are friendly. These cats receive medical attention with the help of local veterinarians, and when ready, are put up for adoption. All our cats are cared for in foster homes. As a general policy, we do not take owner-surrendered cats. NAR is also dedicated to re-homing Shih Tzus and other small dog breeds. Our dogs are rescued from shelters, puppy mills and any neglectful situations. They are fostered in a home environment until a loving, forever home is available. I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change

Theatre I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change Book & Lyrics by Joe Di Pietro Music by Jimmy Roberts The trials and tribulations of being single, dating, marriage, loss, and heartbreak are cleverly explored in this musical. I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change addresses everything in the relationship process that you have ever secretly thought about. What does it meant to be a part of the crazed, hopeless singles scene? Cold feet and the in-laws, 30 years of marriage…and everything else that you’re afraid to admit.
