Light the Night Walk
Let's walk to the end of cancer! Join the NJ chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for their annual Light the Night Walk, a fundraising event designed to raise money for blood cancer research and honor patients, survivors, and those we have lost to these diseases. Walkers register as individuals or on teams and raise money in the months leading up to the walk. Those raising $100 or more will receive special incentives. This leisurely-paced, 1.5-mile walk is open to all ages and abilties, and will include both public and private remembrance ceremonies.

Lenape Valley Regional High School will be hosting an arts festival for students with special needs. High Point and Kittatinny students will be in attendance. Activities include art projects, German folk dancing and band instrument lessons between 9:00 and 10:45. All of these activities will be led by Lenape Valley students and designed for the high school students with special needs. Lunch will be from 10:45 - 11:15. From 11:25 - 12:20, Mr. Ruf and his drama class will lead participants in activities on the Lenape stage. Prgramming from 12:30 - 1:00 not yet determined.

Veterans 3K Run/Walk
In conjunction with Veterans Day, the Sports Management AFC class and the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Work at Centenary College are teaming up with Operation Chillout to host a 3K Run/Walk at 11 a.m. on November 8, 2014 near the David and Carol Lackland Center parking lot. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.; Children, students and veterans will pay $5 or $3 when they register prior to the event. Adults pay $8 or $5 when they register prior to the event. Proceeds will benefit homeless veterans.

Bowling for Bucks
The Sussex County Technical School Class of 2017 will be hosting a "Bowling for Bucks" fundraiser on November 22nd from 12pm-2pm at Sparta Lanes in Sparta, NJ. The ticket price will be $15 which entitles you to two hours of unlimited bowling plus shoe rental. We are also offering business sponsorship for the event. The cost to sponsor a lane is $50 which would entitle the business to advertising in front of that lane and admission to the event.
There will be prizes to the top three individual scoring games.

This workshop focuses on how to develop number sense in grades K-2 based on the Common Core State Standards. Topics covered include understanding cardinality of number, decomposition and composition of numbers (Number Bonds); games and activities that develop number sense and facts fluency, place value, and teaching addition and subtraction with meaning.

Model Drawing 1 – Worshops for Teachers
This workshop is an introduction to the model drawing method used to represent word problems in Singapore Math and Japanese mathematics. Topics covered include the history of model drawing, the relationship of the bar model to the Common Core State Standards, the pedagogy of the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach, how bar and line models are developed informally in early grades, and using part whole and comparison models to solve word problems involving the four operations with whole numbers.

Breakfast with Santa
The Sussex County Technical School class of 2017 will be hosting an "Breakfast with Santa" Flapjack (Pancake) Breakfast on Saturday, December 13th at Applebee's in Newton, NJ. The event will be taking place from 8am-10am and tickets will cost $10. The ticket buys you pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee and orange juice. In addition Santa will be there taking photographs with the kids.
