The City Market Downtown is a farmer’s market that has been an integral part of Edmonton’s downtown for more than a century. We are a year-round market known for its friendly, open atmosphere and quality products delivered direct by friendly, local farmers, growers and artisans.
Being located in Edmonton, Alberta means our market runs during all four seasons. To keep it comfortable for customers and our vendors, we are outdoors on the street in the spring and summer months, and we move indoors in the fall and winter:
•Outdoors on 104th Street (north of Jasper Avenue) from May to Thanksgiving (9am to 3pm)
•Indoors at City Hall (Sir Winston Churchill Square) from October 15 to May (10am to 3pm)

TIME’s second concert of the season will feature our three contemporary vocal ensembles singing music in a variety of styles from Gospel to pop to jazz. Selections by Six, SONOS, the New York Voices, and more will be performed as well as several new arrangements by the choristers.

The U of A Opera presents Orphee aux Enfers, or Orpheus in Hades, an opera bouffe in three acts with text by Crémieux and music by Jacques Offenbach. This will be a full production on the Winspear stage directed by Kim Mattice Wanat and accompanied by the UofA orchestra conducted by Petar Dundjerski. One of the most popular of all of the bouffe operatic works, Offenbach’s tale turns the Orpheus legend upside down and creates a parody on the tales of the Olympian gods. There are a series of humorous vignettes as the Gods, bored with the cushioned confines of Mount Olympus, play mischievously in rebellious moods. Offenbach intended for the opera to appeal to the amusement-seeking class, but the wealth of melody in its musical score and the brilliant humor in its libretto have given it widespread and enduring appeal.
