This is a FREE two-hour class designed to help parents and their new (or soon to be) teen drivers ages 14-16, learn what they need to do during the 40 hours of supervised practice driving time required by Georgia law. Rather than a technical hands-on driver training course, this program addresses driver attitude, knowledge and behavior of both the parent and the new teen driver. There are no attendance restrictions except that a parent must accompany each teen. Registration prior to the class is necessary.

• Understanding the Licensing Process and Georgia's Teen Driving Laws
• Coaching Your New Driver (for parents)
• Getting the Keys to the Wheels and Keeping Them

Community Emergency Response Team
Have you ever wanted to help in an emergency?
If your answer is yes, we need you to be a part of CERT! (Community Emergency Response Team)
The Sandy Springs Fire Department is offering CERT training to our community. The goal is for SSFD to provide training on basic response skills to members of neighborhoods, community organizations, communities of faith and businesses. CERT members are then integrated into the emergency response in their area in times of need.
Each CERT member will learn basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following and event when professional responders have not yet arrived on the scene.

Sandy Springs, GA; December 20, 2012: Heritage Sandy Springs announces the 2013 topics for “Turtle Tours,” an educational series appropriate for children ages 2 – 5 in the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum. Through stories, hands-on exhibits, and crafts, Museum mascots “Sandy” the Chipmunk and “Spring” the Turtle will introduce preschoolers to history. Based on the Smithsonian Institution’s Early Enrichment program, “Turtle Tours” are held one Saturday each month at 11:00 am and last approximately 45 minutes. Chris developed a love of woodworking as a child and has since studied at the John C. Campbell Folk School and at Country Workshops. He has demonstrated and taught at the Atlanta History Center, Hundred Acre Farm, and other Georgia historic sites, and has been teaching at the Folk School since 1993. He is now director of the Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia in Sautee Nacoochee, GA. Made possible through the generosity of Morris V. Moore.

With their soulful four-part harmonies, poetic lyrics and indelible melodies, it’s easy to see why von Grey has been called “nothing short of stunning.” The classically trained indie-folk band consists of four sisters, ages 12 – 18. The Atlanta-based group made their network television debut in February on "The Late Show with David Letterman” followed by an appearance on "Rock Center with Brian Williams" and “Conan O’Brien” and have performed upwards of 200 shows in the past two years, from recurring residency tours at intimate venues throughout the southeastern U.S. to supporting gigs with such artists as Sarah McLachlan.

Sandy Springs, GA; December 20, 2012: Heritage Sandy Springs announces the 2013 topics for “Turtle Tours,” an educational series appropriate for children ages 2 – 5 in the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum. Through stories, hands-on exhibits, and crafts, Museum mascots “Sandy” the Chipmunk and “Spring” the Turtle will introduce preschoolers to history. Based on the Smithsonian Institution’s Early Enrichment program, “Turtle Tours” are held one Saturday each month at 11:00 am and last approximately 45 minutes. The program is free, but donations are encouraged. “Turtle Tours” are scheduled for the following Saturdays in 2013:

The Lost Folk Art of Moonshine Making Mr. Slack, Consultant and Interpreter, is retired from the Parks & Historic Sites Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). During his time with DNR, Mr. Slack was the naturalist/program director at UNICOI Park and the Folklore Education Specialist for the Conservation Center at Smithgall Woods, where he reconstructed a log cabin and also gave tours and demonstrations. Made possible through the generosity of Morris V. Moore.
