Aage Nielsen will be performing the world’s first concert entirely dedicated to the douçaine, a recently discovered early double-reed instrument found on the Mary Rose, the recently excavated (ca. 1980) flagship of King Henry VIII. There are currently fewer than thirty replicas of the one extant model, and Aage has quickly risen as the only specialist. GECC is a local non-profit organization committed to developing emergency care systems in extremely resource-poor developing countries where no such care exists. Our pilot project was starting an emergency room in a rural hospital in Uganda in a location where there exists a lot of trauma, in addition to complex and critically ill medical patients due to HIV/AIDS and a variety of tropical diseases. The ER opened in June of 2008, and GECC has developed a training program for local emergency care providers that is currently being implemented.
