Pamelo Bannos is an eminent photographic artist who produces amazing works by manipulating specific features of existing snapshots she finds at flea markets and through other sources. Creating a new focus she highlights specific features to produce an entirely different vision. Her unique results have produced admiration and praise nationally and internationally. Members and guests of the Barrington/Northwest Community Associates are invited to hear Ms. Bannos's commentary and to witness her optical illusions on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Pamela Bannos is a Senior lecturer at Northwestern University and the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. This unique program arranged for B/NWCA members and guests also includes a sumptious lunch at Lovell's Restaurant.

Environment
The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual event that connects bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are all across the continent.
Attendees of this class will watch a video about birds, hike a trail while counting birds, and then head back to the nature center to compile our data. While warming up with hot chocolate, participants will make a bird friendly craft.
A portion of this class is held outdoors, so please dress for the weather with good winter foot gear, coat, hat, and gloves.
This class is open to children ages 4 and older. Caregivers are required to attend. CFC members are free. Non-members
pay $5.00 for the first child and $1.00 for each additional child. Please make checks payable to Citizens for Conservation.
Class size is limited, so please register early!

4th Annual Hough School Chess Tournament

This is a US Chess Federation rated tournament where 100% of the proceeds are donated to a charity for education of a little girl living in the slums of Delhi, India. The chess community has raised almost $26,000 in the last 3 years. These funds have allowed plastic surgery for this little girl who was severely burned. Michael Redmer of the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service will talk about two very dissimilar animals that use our wetlands in "A Tale of Two Wetland Creatures: Contrasting Conservation Issues Facing Frogs and Turtles."
Ducks, geese, cranes, herons, and other birds are often the wildlife species people think of as wetland inhabitants. However, in many healthy wetlands, turtles and frogs may exceed the population density and biomass of other air-breathing (non-fish) vertebrate animals. In this program, Mr. Redmer discusses the frogs and turtles that live in Barrington-area wetlands. He describes the "ecosystem services" they provide and helps the audience understand how their similar habitat needs but different life histories create challenges to their conservation.

The Proposed Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge
Environment
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is exploring the possibility of establishing a new national wildlife refuge in southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois. If a refuge is established, it could improve or restore from 10,000 to 30,000 acres of drained wetland basins, historic prairie and forest habitats as well as linking existing conservation lands. Conserving habitat corridors between existing protected parcels would enhance the conservation value of those individual parcels. So what can you do? Don’t have the time or manpower to haul out your
eWaste to the correct facilities?
Walk around your house and label all your old electronics with a
post-it note. These are the items that are sitting around, not
getting used and by state law require specfic disposal methods. On
this weekend, gather all of these items and bring them to the special
eWaste dumpster at Barrington Hills Village Hall on State Rte 62,
just west of State Rte 59.

Village Hall for registration and tailgate at 8:30am. We will be at
