BYDE Nutcracker Audition

Arts & Entertainment Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble will hold auditions for it’s performance of the Nutcracker, to be held December 19th, 20th, and 21st at Barrington High School. Auditions will be held at the Barrington Dance Academy. Male and female students age 7 and up from any dance studio are invited to audition. There is a $20.00 registration fee, payable to BYDE. Dancers should wear proper classroom attire. Rehearsals will be held each Sunday in September, October, November, and December, with technical and dress rehearsals from December 14th-18th. Social Services The Barrington Area Council on Aging and the Barrington Area Library are sponsoring “When I’m 64,” a three-part workshop that will help guide sixtysomethings as they look toward retirement. The workshops will be on Mondays from September 8 through September 22. Workshop 1 (September 8) will cover the basics of Social Security and Medicare. Susan Grossinger, senior services coordinator from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, and Royce Blackwell, retired Social Security Administration manager, will provide attendees with what they need to know to understand and navigate Medicare and Social Security. Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, is an annual commemoration in the United States honoring veterans of the armed services. It coincides with a worldwide commemoration known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, denoting the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended with Germany signing the Armistice at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. A Blue Star Memorial Marker has been placed at the Barrington Area Civil War Enlistment Site, located at the intersection of Old Sutton and Dundee Roads in Barrington Hills. The Council of Barrington Garden Clubs and the Village of Barrington Hill's joint application was accepted for the marker by the National Garden Clubs. The program was established as a way to pay tribute to "All who have served, are serving and will serve."
