Northwest Suburban Genealogy Society Monthly Meeting

Clubs & Organizations "Reading Between the Lines of the City Directory" will be presented by Teresa Steinkamp McMillin, City directories provide an opportunity to understand our ancestor's historical context. Pictures, advertisements, maps of the city and many more items are often included. Examples will be used to illustrate various points of interest. Teresa Steinkamp McMillin is a Certified Genealogist℠ who specializes in German-American and Midwest research, as well as reading German script. Teresa was the 2007 recipient of the National Genealogical Society's Home Study Course and is a multi-year attendee of the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research and the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy. Recently, Teresa published the Guide to Hanover Military Records, 1514-1866 on Microfilm at the Family History Library . Teresa is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogical Society, as well as many local genealogical societies. CFC 20th Annual Native Plant, Shrub and Tree Sale

Environment Citizens for Conservation will hold its 20th annual Native Plant, Shrub and Tree Sale on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8 from 9 a.m-3 p.m. A huge selection of robust, hardy native plants will be available for purchase and knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. Native plants provide many advantages for gardeners and the environment. They do not require fertilizers or pesticides which saves gardeners both time and money. In addition, their deep, fibrous root systems firmly anchor soil to help conserve water and prevent erosion. Native plants do not require watering, but instead provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies and other wildlife. Native forbs (flowering plants) and grasses can be pre-ordered but will also be available on the day of the sale. Trees and shrubs must be ordered in advance by April 15 for pick-up on Friday, May 6, 11:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Citizens for Conservation Mother's Wildflower Tour

Environment Take a walk through the woods with us and see hundreds of spring flowers. Learn their names and why they are so special. Bring binoculars if you have them as we will view the heron rookery on the lake too. Why is it there? How many different birds will we find? Receive a native flower to give your Mom or Grandmother for Mother’s Day! Mothers and Grandmothers are welcome to attend. Fathers, too! Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
