Citizens for Conservation Youth Ed to hold Butterflies on the Prairie Class

Environment Join Citizens for Conservation for a butterfly tour at Flint Creek Savanna. We will discuss the life cycle of butterflies, create butterfly homes, and look for butterflies as we walk the trail. Each student will receive milkweed seeds to plant and a caterpillar to take home and release when it emerges from its chrysalis. Children will also learn about butterfly and moth wing camouflage and do an art project to illustrate this protective feature. Class is open to children ages 5-12 years old. Parents are welcome to attend. CFC members are free; non-members pay $5 for the first child and $1 for each additional child. CFC Hosts Open Self-Guided Prairie Walk

Environment Citizens for Conservation is hosting its third season of Interactive Self-Guided Prairie Walks at Flint Creek Savanna, located at CFC's Headquarters, 459 W. Hwy 22 in Lake Barrington. The preserve is open free to the public the first Sunday afternoon of each month, June 5th, July 3rd, August 7th and September 4th, 1:00-4:00 p.m. The walk on August 7 will again feature wildflowers on the prairie, patches of lavender Monarda or Bergamot and maybe, if you’re lucky, a grazing Monarch flitting by. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes. Bring your cell phone with a Scan app to access the videos by restoration experts along the trail. Sunday, August 7, 2016, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
